The Intern will work in the Office of the Director-General/Executive Director (ODG/OED), Policy and Inter-Agency Coordination team. Under the overall guidance of the Chief of ODG/OED and Strategy Advisor to the Executive Director and the Policy Coordination Officer, and under the supervision of the Programme Coordinator (Gender). The envisaged starting date for the internship is March 2022 for a period of six months. Given the current situation due to COVID-19, interns who will be selected will have to start working remotely from their country of nationality/residence until the international travel restrictions are lifted and access to the Vienna International Centre can be granted.
Gender equality and women's empowerment is a universally agreed objective-deriving from the Charter of the (COMPANY NAME), which unequivocally reaffirmed the equal rights of men and women-and is confirmed in a number of commitments taken through, among others, the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women of 1979, the 1995 Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, various resolutions and decisions of the (COMPANY NAME) General Assembly, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council and the Commission on the Status of Women, and the Sustainable Development Goals, especially Goal 5 ("To achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls"). In the framework of the Office of the Director-General/Executive Director, the intern shall undertake the following duties:
assist with background research of the global developments around gender equality and empowerment of women, with a particular focus on the UN system practices and policies;
assist with the work of internal and external communications for the Global Programme on Gender Equality and the empowerment of Women in UNOV/UNODC;
assist in supporting the Global Programme's events;
assist with engagement with UNODC sections and units at headquarters and field offices as appropriate, with regards to the promotion of gender equality and empowerment of women;
assist with organizing and planning of capacity building workshops, expert group meetings and presentations for partners and stakeholders;
perform other ad-hoc assignments subject to the requirements of service, including providing administrative and logistical support in organizing Global Programme's events and trainings conducted both virtually and on site.
