Education required: You are regularly enrolled in Master/Bachelor in Life or Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Engineering or equivalent technical discipline in an Educational Establishment located in Europe.
Language requirement: Good communication skills in English and/or French (both written and spoken)

Duration: 6 months (a different length could be discussed)
Requisite: The internship must be mandatory & done in the framework of the curriculum, for which an agreement must be signed between (COMPANY NAME), the student and the Educational Establishment.
Remuneration: according to Belgian legal requirements, the internship will not be paid. However, some expenses will be reimbursed.

Context of the internship:
The filling process of vial and syringes is a critical step in vaccines manufacturing. This step impacts directly the final product quality, as the fluid is exposed to surfaces and stresses during filtration and transport through piping, pumps and needles. Hence, the potential impact of viscous stress and interfaces on antigen structure is critical to evaluate and develop a robust process, building the needed knowledge for scale-up purposes.
In the framework of (COMPANY NAME) vaccine products, this stage aims to deepen the knowledge on phase interfaces (solid-liquid and gas-liquid) and their impact on antigens by designing and executing ad hoc experiments and analysis.
The experimental work will consist of 3 work packages:
1) Literature research to grasp a solid understanding of shear stress-induced and interface-induce protein degradation and the state-of-the-art testing method;
2) Development of a robust testing method for the antigen in use;
3) Impact evaluation of air and/or other gases on protein aggregation, by investigating relevant parameters;
4) Impact evaluation of shear stress on protein aggregation as function of tubing material, rugosity, length, exposure time.
You will eventually resume the data and model obtained in a report and you will present the outcome of the internship to the R&D department.
