Job Description:

The global network of (COMPANY NAME) Information Centres (UNICs) is part of the Strategic Communications Division of the Department of Global Communications. It is key to the Organization's ability to reach the peoples of the world and to share the (COMPANY NAME) story with them in their own languages. These centres, working in coordination with the UN system, reach out to the media and educational institutions, engage in partnerships with governments, local civil society organizations and the private sector, and maintain libraries and electronic information resources.
Just as UNICs are the principal sources of information about the (COMPANY NAME) system in the countries where they are located, they are also responsible for promoting greater public understanding of and support for the aims and activities of the (COMPANY NAME) by disseminating information on the work of the Organization to people everywhere, especially in developing countries.
This internship is located in the (COMPANY NAME) Information Centre UNIC Bogota in Bogota city, and is offered for an initial period of two months, with an opportunity for extension up to, but not exceeding, six months, pending on the needs of the department.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision and support of a staff member from the office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the National Information Officer, the Intern must perform the following activities: Monitor the media for news stories of interest to the UNIC, Research, draft and/or update on-line content for the UN website and social media accounts in Colombia, with guidance from subject matter experts and relevant substantive focal points, Assist on media outreach, e.g distribution of press releases and other information materials to mass media and civil society organizations, Record video/radio interviews with UN agency spokespersons, local and national authorities, local communities, NGO Staff and Government Officials, Organize and maintain records of interview subjects and preparing material for final radio production following the storyboard.

The intern will be guided by the National Information Officer in performing the following activities: Determine and arrange all content, subject interviews, dates, times and locations, Provide all post-production supports, editing, mixing, transitions, etc, Collaborate with UNIC staff and UN sister agencies to ensure proper oversight and supervision of all editorial decisions in production;
Assist in organising activities for the UN Day and other Observances, Provide general office support (e.g. processing correspondence, maintaining files, records, and/or databases, organising meetings, taking meeting minutes, etc.), Produce journalistic content and news stories.

Monitors ongoing developments inside and outside the clients' environment to keep informed and anticipate problems. Keeps clients informed of progress or setbacks in projects. Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.

Education

Please note that to qualify for an internship with the (COMPANY NAME) Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent)
Applicants must also:
- Be computer literate in standard software applications
- Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the (COMPANY NAME) and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter

-Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the (COMPANY NAME) Secretariat.
- Fluency in English and Spanish is required for the internship.
