This internship is located in the Office of the (COMPANY NAME) Resident Coordinator at (COMPANY NAME) Headquarters in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
The Resident Coordinator system, ensures the coordination of all organizations of the (COMPANY NAME) dealing with operational activities for development at the country level, regardless of the nature of their presence in the country. It encompasses the UN Resident Coordinator, the UN Country Team and Resident Coordinator's Office and is served by the UN Development Coordination Office.
The Resident Coordinator system is focused on the advancement of sustainable development, leaving no one behind, and with the eradication of poverty in all its forms and dimensions as an overarching objective, consistent with the integrated nature of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In performing her/his functions, the Resident Coordinator is guided by the respective UNDAF and international frameworks, norms and standards agreed amongst the Member States of the (COMPANY NAME).
The Resident Coordinator (RC) is the highest ranking representative of the (COMPANY NAME) development system (UNDS) at the country level, with the responsibility to lead (COMPANY NAME) country team, and ensure system-wide accountability on the ground - including through a matrixed dual reporting model - for the (COMPANY NAME) Development Assistance Framework and coordinating UN support to countries in their implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
The Office of the Resident Coordinator (OCR) supports the work of the Resident Coordinator and is made up of a team of professionals who advise the Resident Coordinator in the undertaking of his duties and promote the joint work of the UN entities in the country to achieve the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals.
The Intern reports to the Senior Human Rights Advisor to the UN Resident Coordinator in the Dominican Republic.
This internship is expected to start on 3 May, for an initial period of three months and may be extended up to six months depending on the needs of the Office.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (40 hours).
Under the supervision of the Senior Human Rights Advisor to the UN Resident Coordinator, the intern duties include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting comparative and thematic analysis of the National Plan on Human Rights and the recommendations made by human rights mechanisms.
- Undertaking thematic research on human rights issues in-focus, including data and statistics gathering, as appropriate.
- Assisting in the preparations of meetings, during conferences and workshops and in the drafting and preparation of official documents.
-Assisting in the elaboration of Standard Operating Procedures and on the implementation of human rights policies such as the Human Rights Due Diligence Policy on UN Support to Non-UN Security Forces.
-Assist in the provision of training on (COMPANY NAME) Human Rights Mechanisms, Human Rights Indicators, a Human Rights-Based Approach to programming and international standards on human rights, as appropriate.
- Undertake other human rights-related activities, such as media analysis, and speech drafting.
-Support other initiatives of the Office of the Resident Coordinator, as deemed appropriate.
