Under the guidance and direct supervision of the OCHA ROMENA SHAO, the Humanitarian Intern will work on reviewing, documenting, mapping and reporting current humanitarian developments in the region, hazard profile for the countries under the mandate of OCHA ROMENA and other office daily follow up issues as required. OCHA's mission is to mobilize and coordinate effective and principles humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors in order to alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies; advocate the rights of people in need; promote preparedness and prevention and facilitate sustainable solutions This internship will be based in the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa, based in Cairo, Egypt, providing support related to HNO/ HRP engagement in humanitarian action. This internship is being offered for a maximum period of six months, beginning at a mutually agreed time.
The intern will be responsible for the following duties: - support the monitoring, analysis and reporting on humanitarian developments, disaster relief/management and emergency situations in the region - Follows up and monitors disaster/hazard alerts Early Warnings System/s.- Organizes and prepares surveys on humanitarian, emergency response and related issues.-Contributes to the various reports, documents and communications, e.g. drafts sections of surveys, background papers, policy guidelines, parliamentary documents, briefings, case studies, presentations, correspondence, talking points, etc. -Assists in the preparation of the Humanitarian Needs- Overview (HNO) and the Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) processes. - Supports advocacy initiatives on issues impacting humanitarian needs and response efforts through the collection of information, liaison with humanitarian partners, government officials, the media, etc.- Actively engages in working groups, meetings, conferences, consultations with other agencies and partners on humanitarian and emergency response matters. - Assisting in the daily work of the office including the follow ups of the annual programs, Plan of Action and coordination issues: - Prepare information materials for humanitarian advocacy and sharing with other partners; Perform any other administrative work related to the office work;- Performs other duties as required.
