This internship is located within the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA - unescwa.org) Cluster on 'Gender Justice, Population and Inclusive Development' which focuses on gender equality and gender justice; equitable, inclusive and participatory social development; poverty and unemployment reduction; and migration issues.
The duration of an ESCWA internship is normally two months on a full-time basis - this may be exceptionally extended for a maximum period of six months. The internship certificate is awarded on the recommendation of the supervisor.
Interns are not financially remunerated by the (COMPANY NAME). Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. The (COMPANY NAME) accepts no responsibility for the medical insurance of the intern or costs arising from injury, illness or death that may occur during an internship. The UN-ESCWA Cluster on "Gender Justice, Population and Inclusive Development" is seeking to recruit in-house full-time interns to provide support to the cluster team in the implementation and carrying out of its various activities and programmes.
The intern is expected to assist in the following areas:
1 - Provide substantive research support on subjects related to the work of the cluster: this includes reviewing existing literature; assisting in crystallizing research questions; conducting desk research.
2 - Assist in the preparation and review of written outputs published by ESCWA e.g. background papers, technical papers, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications.
3 - Draft inputs to presentations and research papers.
4 - Assist in the organization of expert group meetings, conferences or workshops related to the work of the cluster.
5 - Prepare minutes of meetings.
6 - Perform other duties as requested.

To qualify for an internship with the (COMPANY NAME) Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
1. Applicants must:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent); or
(c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation;
2. Applicants must:
(a) be computer literate in standard software applications;
(b) have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the (COMPANY NAME) and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter; and
(c) have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

English and French are the working languages of the (COMPANY NAME) Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English is required; and knowledge of Arabic and French is desirable.
