Job Description:

The (COMPANY NAME) Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Regional Office for West and Central Africa seeks to recruit one (1) intern for six (6) months starting tentatively in March 2020.

Duty station : Bamako - Mali

The internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of the UNODC TIP/ SOM Unit coordinator and direct supervision of National Project Officer based in Bamako. The successful candidates will be assigned to the Trafficking in Persons / Smuggling of Migrants Unit.

The objective of the mission is to assist the National Coordinator of the project in the operationalization, implementation and monitoring of work related to the smuggling of migrants within the framework of the project "Strengthening the capacities of West African States to develop a human rights-based response to migrant smuggling and to respond effectively to human rights violations related to irregular migration" (PROMIS Project) and more generally within the UNODC Country Programme in Mali and the Region (ROSEN).

Under the supervision of the National Project Coordinator, the candidate will have the following tasks and responsibilities:
*Assist in the administrative and financial coordination of the project,
*Assist in the preparation/revision of detailed work plans for project implementation,
*Assist in the development of concept notes, analytical documents and advice as required,
*Contribute daily to the implementation of project activities within the deadlines set by the work plan,
*Ensure and facilitate liaison with implementing partners in their tasks and deliverables,
*Assist in the regular evaluation of the progress of activities and document the project with all relevant materials,
*Contribute to the strengthening of the network with other partners with an interest in the project's field of intervention,
*Support the project in actions to increase the visibility of the project,
*Contribute to the organization of project evaluation activities, including visits from partners, donors and evaluators,
*Ensure the collection of relevant and up-to-date information from different sources for project implementation and evaluation,
*Make a rigorous classification of all programmatic, budget and financial transaction support documents under the direction of the National Project Coordinator,
*Provide information/guidance to implementing partners on the implementation of projects on the production of supporting documents for expenses related to Project activities,
*Provide administrative support for the preparation and implementation of all activities related to the fight against the smuggling of migrants and trafficking in persons, including workshops and training seminars,
*Participate in public information initiatives and contribute to the coordination and maintenance of close relationships with government partners, international organizations, civil society and other law enforcement agencies,
*Perform advocacy and information tasks such as making interventions and presentations in workshops, seminars and missions, etc.
*Perform any other assigned task compatible with its functions.

Competencies

Education

To qualify for an internship with the (COMPANY NAME) Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
*Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation; OFFICIAL PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY IN SUPPORT OF ONE OF THE ABOVE OPTIONS HAS TO BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION.

*Be computer literate in standard software applications;

*Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the (COMPANY NAME) and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and

*Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

*Familiarity with the area of combating the smuggling of migrants / migration or trafficking in persons is an asset.

*Knowledge of project elaboration, implementation and monitoring and exposure to international development cooperation is highly desirable.

*We seek candidates with relevant coursework in Law, LLM, criminal law, criminology, Political Science, Social sciences, International Relations, Global Affairs, Public Administration, Management.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the (COMPANY NAME) Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written French and English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the (COMPANY NAME) Secretariat.
