The Development and Outreach Department of (COMPANY NAME) (HRW) is seeking a full-time Associate for the Amsterdam office, which serves as an important base for HRW's development, fundraising, and outreach activities in The Netherlands. The Amsterdam Associate provides detail-oriented administrative support to the Development and Outreach team, collaborating on communications, administration, and event coordination. The Associate will participate in team meetings, and events related to human rights, as well as network with colleagues around the world. The Associate will report to the Netherlands Director.
This position is for a 40 hours/week fixed-term contract and is anticipated to start by February 2022. Some evening and weekend work will be required for events.
Due to COVID-19, many of our global offices are operating in reduced capacities. The successful candidate may be required to work remotely at times. We recognize that this moment, during the pandemic, is a uniquely difficult time for most people, particularly those with caregiving responsibilities, and we aim to be as flexible and supportive as possible in both the recruitment for and onboarding of this position.
1. Support planning, implementing, and evaluating all HRW activities and events in The Netherlands, both online and off-line, including but not limited to the annual Voices for Justice fundraising dinner.
2. Organize, communicate, and market outreach events such as film screenings, researcher briefings and expert-panels in the Netherlands to raise awareness and familiarity with HRW for a wider audience.
3. Assist with the maintenance of the Salesforce database by ensuring accurate and timely recordings of all contact information, generating reports, lists and queries, and updating information:
xxx5; Entering monthly donations in a timely manner and reconciliation of gifts with financial statements.
xxx5; Drafting and processing invoices, gift acknowledgement and tax receipts to donors.
xxx5; Creating and updating donor profiles with relevant communications and information.
xxx5; Pulling donor and financial reports.
4. Coordinate visits of HRW researchers to the Netherlands, by coordinating logistics, drafting briefing documents, assisting in the preparations of presentations, and arranging meetings with ministries, donors, and partner organisations.
5. Support and assist in the creation of development materials, newsletters, e-mails, invitations, web content, and event-related mailings. Maintain and help grow the Netherlands' HRW accounts on social media, primarily Facebook, and Instagram, as needed.
6. Provide development and fundraising support by performing prospect research, foundation research, translation tasks, tracking and updating donor database information, ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of the data, and performing revenue reconciliation.
7. Support the cultivation of relations with donors, partner organisations and others, including tracking the developments in these relations.
8. Support the Run for (COMPANY NAME) foundation by arranging regular meetings, assisting in the coordination of events and briefings of HRW researchers and acting as point of contact for all HRW related inquiries.
9. Assist with training for interns based in the Amsterdam office, as needed.
10. Carry out other duties as required.
Experience: A minimum of one year of relevant work experience is required.
Education: A bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in law, human rights, communication, international relations, social science, or a related field, is required.
Required skills:
1. Prior office/administration experience and effective organisational skills.
2. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Dutch.
3. Ability to work well under deadlines while juggling multiple tasks simultaneously.
4. Proficiency in computer applications including MS Office.
5. Willing to occasionally work out of hours for events.
Any of the following skills would be considered an asset, but are not required: fundraising experience, experience in event-management, experience using Salesforce or similar database systems, experience in social media outreach, or experience in grant writing.
Required personal characteristics:
1. Great interest in international human rights, event management, and fundraising.
2. Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a variety of audiences.
3. Self-motivation and the ability to prioritize with minimal supervision and work independently as well as function as a member of a team with staff in locations globally.
