Job Description:

This profile is for the sole purpose of the UNOG Internship Program at the (COMPANY NAME) Arabic interpretation section at Geneva. There should be no expectation of employment within the UN after an internship. Interns shall not be eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, positions at the professional level and above carrying international recruitment status in the Secretariat for a period of six months following the end of their internship.

The (COMPANY NAME) Office at Geneva is seeking expressions of interest from Arabic interpreters with English and/or French to undergo online internship training.

The internship is UNPAID. It will be free of charge and will be conducted online over 8 weeks under the guidance of UN staff interpreters. Places are limited.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the intern will assist with the following duties:
- Is required to simultaneously interpret from a wide range of subjects;
- Carries out assignments as designated by trainers, including silent booth assignments and sight interpretation;
- Advances preparation for assignments using glossaries, UN reference documents and oral presentations to support oral skills;
- Participates in periodical evaluation sessions aimed at assessing his/her progress, addressing strengths and remedying shortcomings, as appropriate;
- Performs other related duties as required, including terminological work, and other tasks.

Timely attendance of training sessions is required.
A certificate of completion of internship will be provided at the end of the internship.

Education

To qualify for an internship with the (COMPANY NAME), applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent);

Interested candidates must be pursuing or pursued their degree in areas related to this Job Opening in interpretaion.

In addition, interested candidates must:
- Be computer literate in standard software applications including MS Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point);
- Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the (COMPANY NAME) and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and,
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

Applicants to the (COMPANY NAME) Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, professional interpretation experience is an asset.
Applicants' claim to interpretation experience must be supported by relevant proof attached to their application.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the (COMPANY NAME) Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in Arabic as a main language is required. Fluency in English and/or French as a secondary language is also required one of which must be a retour language.

Applicants' claim to knowledge of languages of the (COMPANY NAME) must be supported by relevant documentation attached to their application.

Assessment

After the initial screening process is completed, candidates will be required to undergo a pre-selection test to determine their eligibility.

Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
