Job Description:

The internship is located in the Forestry and Timber Section of the (COMPANY NAME) Economic Commission for Europe based in Geneva.

Responsibilities

The intern is expected to contribute to the work of the Forests, Land and Housing Division as follows:

The intern will assist in the productions the UNECE/FAO Forest Products Annual Market Review, 2xxx-xxx1, which should include but not limited to:

Economic and/or sector analysis:
*Graphics production for the publication.
*Research on chapter topics.
*Price series information input to the database
*Other aspects of the production work, such as web work, electronic links to the online publication

General:
*Performs other related duties as required, including a variety of administrative tasks necessary for the final delivery of the work unit's services;

Work implies frequent interaction with the following:
Staff within work unit/section and peers in department/regional commission; staff of other international organizations working on related issues; academics and representatives of civil society, both NGOs and the business community.

Competencies

*Professionalism: Knowledge of internal policies, processes and procedures generally and in particular those related to programme/project administration, implementation and evaluation, technical cooperation, programming and budgeting. Understanding of the functions and organization of the work unit and of the organizational structure and respective roles of related units. Ability to identify, independently assess, formulate recommendations and/or resolve a wide range of issues/problems, undertake research and gather information from standard sources and to work well with figures including ability to analyze and understand financial data. Ability to design information databases from multiple sources into an integrated programme evaluation system. Ability to direct, supervise and train office support staff. Demonstrated ability to apply judgment in the context of assignments given and discretion, resourcefulness and ability to deal proactively and tactfully with offices throughout the organization. Shows pride in work and in achievements; demonstrates professional competence and mastery of subject matter; is conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results; is motivated by professional rather than personal concerns; shows persistence when faced with difficult problems or challenges; remains calm in stressful situations. Education

To qualify for the (COMPANY NAME) Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

- Applicants to the (COMPANY NAME) internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

(a)Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b)Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
(c)Have graduated with a university degree, as defined above, and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.
(d)Be computer literate in standard software applications;

For this internship, studies in forestry, business, economics or related field, economics, international relations or equivalent are required

Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the (COMPANY NAME) and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; Fco

Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the (COMPANY NAME) Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of French or Russian is an asset.
