Internship Plant Cell Culture

Job Description:

We are able to offer an exciting Internship in Plant Cell Culture for a period of 6 Months (preferred period: ca. September 2021 - January 2022). Within this internship in the Taste & Wellbeing Division, you will have the unique opportunity to work with our Science & Technology specialists to develop plant and tissue cell cultures. You will report directly to the Research Investigator and work in the Innovation Center with our dynamic team in Kemptthal.

You Will:

Initiate and grow callus and suspension cultures from different plants and tissues:

Work with the Research Scientist to initiate and maintain callus- and suspension cultures. Optimize media requirements for different cultivars and stages of growth to ensure adequate multiplication rates.

* Follow "Standard Operating Procedures" SOPs

* Prepare sterile stock solutions and tissue culture media

* Working sterile; Preparation of Explants and plant cell cultures

* Initiate and maintain callus and suspension cultures from various plants and tissues

* Assist in modifying existing SOPs and developing new SOPs

Develop elicitation strategies and prepare samples for analysis:

Work with the Research Scientist to develop elicitation strategies and prepare samples for the analytical department.

* Read, evaluate and summarize literature

* Develop a strategy on how to improve biomass yield and production of metabolites

Prepare samples, analyse results:

Take on the communication with our analytical department to analyse the metabolites generated by the plant cell cultures during your experimentation.

* Use existing extraction methods and/or develop extraction methods together with our scientists to isolate metabolites for analysis

* Analyse results and present them in a graphical form (Excel, statistic, figures)

* Prepare a report of your results in Word and present results during your internship and in a final presentation (PowerPoint) to a group of scientists

Your profile:

* You are currently completing or have recently finished a Degree in Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Science or a certification in the area of plant cell culture

* An interest to work in a scientific research environment where Biotechnology is an enabler

* Experience working with plant cell cultures in a laboratory using aseptic/sterile techniques

* Good knowledge in Excel and Word
