Job Description:

The (COMPANY NAME) Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the (COMPANY NAME) system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

Located within UNEP, Division of Economy, the Resources & Markets Branch (UNEP-RMB) seeks to conserve the environment, reduce poverty, and promote sustainable development by enhancing the capacity of governments, businesses, and civil society to integrate environmental considerations into economic, trade, and financial policies and practices in accordance with the partnership and integrated policy-making approaches of sustainable development.

The UNEP/Finance Initiative (UNEP/FI) (wxx.xxxxxx.xxg) is a unique global partnership between UNEP and about 350 banks, insurers and investors from around the world. UNEP/FI works closely with its signatories to the UNEP/FI Statements of Environmental Commitment, and a range of partner organizations to develop and promote linkages between the environment, sustainability and financial performance. Through its industry commissions, thematic advisory groups and regional activities, UNEP/FI carries out its mission to identify, promote, and realize the adoption of sustainability practice at all levels of financial institution operations by:

Globally facilitate and promote leadership on sustainability by financial institutions.

Engage the broader membership in work programme implementation.

Strengthen regional co-ordination.

Strengthen financial sector commitment through growth in signatories to Statement.

The internship is for six (6) months, UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel and access to UN premises. Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely for a part or the entirety of the internship.

Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.

In line with UNEP/FI work programme for 2021 and under the direct supervision the Signatory Relations, working closely with the Latin America & Caribbean, European, North America and Africa & Middle East Regional Coordinators, the intern will support the implementation and consolidation of UNEP/FI outreach & co-ordination plans across the four regions. The intern is expected to:

*Assist in the organization of the Global and Regional Roundtables and related events to be held in 2021

*Assist in writing country and members' profiles, monitoring reporting as well as on establishing the key areas of expertise of supporting institutions.

*Support membership surveys across all regions.

*Assist with identifying financial institutions for outreach in line with banking, insurance and investment membership strategies.

*Assist with preparation of sustainable finance events in the 4 regions (training and awareness-raising activities);

*Assist with development of public communication through, for example, UNEP/FI newsletter, website, case studies, etc.;

*Update the contact database for UNEP/FI Signatories including the areas of active engagement with UNEP/FI, if and as relevant;

*Support the Regional Coordinators and Signatory Relations Manager on any other matters as necessary.

*Assist in writing, editing, proofreading and preparing communications for members.

*Assist in community platform creation and management.

Education

Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);

b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);

c. Have graduated with a university degree.

Be computer literate in standard software applications. Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the (COMPANY NAME) and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Studies in finance, economics, development studies, business management, communications, marketing, data management preferred.

Work Experience

No working experience is required to apply for the (COMPANY NAME) Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the (COMPANY NAME) during your internship.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the (COMPANY NAME) Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN Language is desirable.
