Job Description:

-Lausanne, Switzerland
-starts in February 2019
-paid internship

***About the company***

We are a young startup that delivers food, snacks and other goods with autonomous drones. The company was founded in 2017 by a leading expert on drone legislation and a successful e-commerce entrepreneur.

We believe that autonomous delivery vehicles like self-driving cars and drones will have a huge impact on the way we buy things.

People love to buy things online already, but if the delivery were free, and 10 times faster, people would like it even more. That’s why we are developing our autonomous delivery drones.

In this internship you get to play an important part in a very promising startup. We would love it if the internship goes well and we can offer you a full time job at the end of it.

***About the internship***

We will train the autonomous navigation software of our drones in a simulator. Your job is to build that simulator. We need a game developer who will develop a virtual environment in which we can train our virtual drones to fly around and deliver small packages.
The first project of your internship will be to develop an environment with realistic graphics, and realistic physics of a customers house, specifically, the part of the house where the package gets delivered. The way machine learning works is that we need a lot of variety in the training data. This means you will create code that randomly generates environments that are slightly different. In each virtual delivery, the payload is a little different, the wind is a little different, the friction coefficient of the package is a little different, the color and shape of the customers house is a little different etc. Then our drone software will do hundreds of thousands of deliveries in this simulation you developed and gradually get better.

If we have time, you will do a second project. In this second project you will create an environment where the drone software learns to fly around a city and avoid collisions. You might modify GTA or another open world game to make this possible.

***Starting Date, Location & Compensation***

Your internship will start in February 2019, and it will end 6 or 12 months later (18 months, or even full time employment is also possible). We would like to keep you as long as possible but we realize that you may only be able to do 1 or 2 semesters. The exact start and end date can be negotiated. The internship takes place in our office in Lausanne, Switzerland. You will receive a compensation of CHF 1500.-- / month.

***Apply now***

Please send your application package, including your CV, a cover letter and any other relevant information.

Candidate Requirements:

-You know how to develop a basic 3d game.  It doesn’t matter which SDK, which programming language, which graphics engine etc. We don’t care which development environment you are experienced with, but there needs to be one that you are somewhat experienced with, because you won’t have time to learn those basics on the job.

-You need to know computer programming, this is a software development internship. Again, it doesn’t matter that much which specific programming languages you are good at, we can adapt to that.

-You should be intelligent and excited to work on this project
