The Trade, Investment and Innovation Division's Investment and Enterprise Development Section internship is for three (3) to six (6) months depending on the needs of the division.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (37.5 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
The Investment and Enterprise Development Section deals with policy issues relating to: the development of small and medium-sized enterprises; promotion and facilitation of foreign direct investment (FDI); national and international investment regulations, policies and agreements; and promotion of sustainable business practices in Asia and the Pacific region.
Under the overall supervision of the Chief of the Business and Development Section, Trade, Investment and Innovation Division, and the direct supervision of one of the Economic Affairs Officers of the Section, the intern will:
Assist in the preparation of analytical studies in the overall areas of: Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), Sustainable Business Practices / Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the integration of small and medium size enterprise (SME) into global value chains, national and international investment regulations, policies and agreements, and/or other relevant areas of substantive research. The intern will also participate in day-to-day operational tasks of the section.
Related activities may include:
1.Assist in analytical and background research relating but not limited to: FDI, national and international investment regulations, policies and agreements, sustainable business practices, enterprise development, regional and global value chains, policy and regulatory frameworks, access to finance for SMEs, inclusive business development and sustainability, etc.
2.Conduct quantitative data analysis, basic economic modeling and database updates of FDI statistics
3.Assist in project planning, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of programme initiatives
4.Assist in the organization of workshops and forums
5.Collaborate in the development of web content and webpage design
6.Assist in the drafting of reports of meetings.
7.Assist in engagement of the business sector, in particular assisting to organize meetings of the ESCAP Sustainable Business Network (ESBN) and the Asia-Pacific Business Forum
8.Participate in day-to-day operational tasks of the section. This may include, for example servicing requests for information; support for developing presentations; updating of websites and databases; etc.
9.Present on the work undertaken during internship, or on related research work, at an internal brown bag seminar.

(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or
(c) have graduated with a university degree (first university degree, or second university degree or equivalent, or higher) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation.
English and French are the working languages of the (COMPANY NAME) Secretariat. Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required for the Internship Programme. Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.
