Our Submarines Business
Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.
The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels. In total, seven boats will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes.
Dreadnought is the successor to the Vanguard class of nuclear deterrent submarines. We will deliver four submarines to the Royal Navy, with the first submarine entering service in the early 2030s. Dreadnought is widely considered to be one of the world's most complex engineering challenges.

Would you like to be working as part of the Plant Maintenance team focusing on Plumbing aspects of Maintenance? We currently have a vacancy for a Maintenance Plumber at our site in Barrow
As a Maintenance Plumber, you will work directly within a team of Plumbers serving the department and supporting the department's skilled trade groups.
This will provide you with a challenging and exciting role, each day will bring its own challenges. Days can and will be planned but this can be overridden by the demands of the business if breakdowns occur that require urgent action. The working day may also require meeting attendance, document and project review, liaising with machine and software manufacturers both national and international.
Your main responsibilities as a Maintenance Plumber will involve:
* Working safely always, complying with Health and Safety and other relevant regulations and guidelines
* Following the relevant instructions, manufactures and technical drawings and any other specifications
* Using associated tools and equipment safely and effectively
* Maintaining and repairing of domestic and commercial water systems
* Maintaining and repairing of compressed air and industrial gasses
* Maintaining and repairing of domestic and commercial gas heaters, boilers and associated pipework
* Monitoring and controlling of legionella in water systems
* Supporting and mentoring apprentices
Your skills and qualifications:
* ACS Gas qualifications
* Plumbing Trade apprenticeship NVQ3
* Experience in diagnostics and testing
* Ability to read technical drawings and manuals
* Understanding of water regulations
* Experience in Engineering/Industrial environment
* Plant maintenance background
* Legionella prevention experience
* Knowledge of isolation process competent
* Industrial gas knowledge
