At DK Children's, we publish award-winning books for kids of all ages, covering everything from first words and numbers, to science, history, and the natural world. Thoroughly researched and expertly designed non-fiction is our home turf, but we apply our unique approach to a diverse range of genres, including craft, activities, cooking, sticker books, and fiction with a factual element. In everything we do, the goal is the same: to produce beautiful, enriching books that will delight and inspire young readers.

At the heart of it all is our close-knit editorial team, which oversees the creative process from beginning to end, liaising with prominent authors and expert consultants to ensure every book meets our exacting standards - and is completed on-time and within budget.

Now, we are looking for an organised and enthusiastic Editor or Project Editor to join the DK Children's division on a temporary contract for seven months.

In this is a varied and busy role, you will be supporting the Managing Editor, the Publisher and the Publishing Director.

Key responsibilities:

* Develop, originate and commission new print and digital products for global trade markets and custom and specials clients

* Work jointly and collaborate effectively with other members of the team, at all times, on every project

* Commission and brief authors, freelance editors, packagers, indexers, consultants and proofreaders, providing clear briefings and feedback to ensure the best possible work is delivered

* Revise backlist products and update digital products as required

* Research emerging trends (global or local as required) and develop new ideas for presentation

* Keep abreast of competitors and maintain market awareness in order to adapt to changing demands and seek out new publishing opportunities

* Drive all stages of the editorial process, and undertake hands-on editorial if required and at the discretion of their manager, including copyediting, fact and sense checks

* In conjunction with the nominated designer, oversee the production of high-quality layouts to the agreed creative brief

* Writing and editing clear, concise spread briefs

* Briefing spread layouts and providing feedback to others, including external freelancers, packagers and the DK Delhi team

* Track and control own-project origination costs, workflows and schedules, using tools provided, to deliver books on time and on budget

* Manage time effectively

* Schedule, set agenda and attend regular catchup meetings with relevant colleagues to ensure the approach and direction of a project is maintained

* Take responsibility for the timely and accurate supply of sales material of the highest quality and to the agreed brief, for book fairs, launches, presales and sales meetings, and marketing campaigns

* Follow current agreed procedures for contractual obligations

* Able to think logically, visually, innovatively - and like a reader

* A clear and confident communicator in writing, on the phone, and in person

* A true team player who wants to get involved and collaborate with others
