Job Description:

This position is located in the Secretariat of the High-Level Panel on International Financial Accountability, Transparency, and Integrity for Achieving the 2030 Agenda (FACTI Panel) hosted by the Financing for Sustainable Development Office (FSDO), Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA). The FACTI Panel Secretariat internship is for an initial period of two (2) months with a possibility of extension.

The FACTI Panel launched in March 2020 by the Presidents of the (COMPANY NAME) General Assembly and Economic and Social Council after consideration of the request contained in General Assembly resolution 74/206 entitled, "Promotion of international cooperation to combat illicit financial flows and strengthen good practices on assets return to foster sustainable development" is expected to contribute to the overall efforts undertaken by Member States to implement the ambitious and transformational vision of the 2030 Agenda. Working autonomously, the panel will review existing international institutional and legal frameworks related to financial accountability, transparency and integrity, with a view to identify any gaps, impediments and vulnerabilities in their design and/or implementation. It will make evidence-based recommendations on how to make the systems for financial accountability, transparency and integrity more comprehensive, robust, effective, and universal in approach. The internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities

The intern will support the FACTI Panel Secretariat in providing effective remote / virtual support to the FACTI Unit's work on global financial accountability, transparency and integrity. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: updating the FACTI Panel website; assistance in drafting and preparing papers, briefings and other documents; arranging and attending virtual meetings of high-level officials; preparing summaries of meetings or events; compiling research and statistics, data entry and analysis.

The intern is expected to:
* Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the (COMPANY NAME) and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
* Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including a willingness to understand and be tolerant of different opinions and views.

Education

To qualify for an internship with the (COMPANY NAME) Internship Programme, applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications and meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent); or
(c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation;

Work Experience

Applicants to the (COMPANY NAME) Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the (COMPANY NAME) Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the Internship Programme. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the (COMPANY NAME) Secretariat.

G-4 VISAS FOR INTERNS:
All interns assigned to a UN Organization, including Funds and Programmes, at a United States based duty station, i.e. New York or Washington, who are not United States citizens or United States legal permanent residents (LPR) will be required to obtain G-4 visas prior to travelling to the United States.

Prospective interns who are already in the United States in another nonimmigrant status may need to apply for a change of status to G-4 prior to joining the (COMPANY NAME) for an internship. It should be emphasized that prospective interns are responsible for ensuring that they have an appropriate valid visa and employment authorization allowing them to undertake the internship.

If the applicant is in F-1 status and has a valid EAD, they may undertake an internship within the scope of their F-1 visa without seeking a change of visa status. Please note, however, that interns in F-1 status who wish to undertake an internship following completion of their academic programme as part of Optional Practical Training (OPT) may need to seek a change of visa status to G-4 (This process currently takes about 8-10 weeks) or obtain G-4 visa overseas.

To qualify for G-4 nonimmigrant status, interns must be serving essentially full-time, i.e. 35 + hours per week.
