This internship is located in the Myanmar Team in the Division for Asia-Pacific in the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) at (COMPANY NAME) Headquarters in New York.
The Myanmar Team in the Asia-Pacific Division of UN DPPA provides policy advice and strategic guidance to senior UN officials on issues pertaining to Myanmar through analysis based on research and liaison with relevant stakeholders. In particular, the Myanmar Team supports the provision of Good Offices in Myanmar, mediation and other activities undertaken by the Special Envoy for Myanmar and other senior UN officials.
While UN DPPA's Asia-Pacific Division is based in New York, the Office of the Special Envoy has a small but full-time presence in Myanmar. The intern, working remotely, is expected to follow New York working hours. Given the current limitations on travel and accessibility to the UN Secretariat in New York, as well as considerations under the duty of care towards interns, the internship will be home-based and not take place in an office environment.
The Intern reports to the Senior Political Affairs Officer. This internship is for a period of six months. The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
The intern will assist the DPPA-DPO, Asia-Pacific Division, Myanmar Team in New York with the following tasks (not exhaustive):
* Conducting research on political, security, human rights and socio-economic developments pertaining to Myanmar and the region, through media monitoring and open source analysis;
* Assisting with the drafting of background notes, correspondence and programmatic documents;
* Assisting with documentation and cataloguing information;
* Note taking;
* Assisting in the organization of (online) events;
* Performing any other duties as required.

To qualify for an internship with the (COMPANY NAME) Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

(a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or,

3. Proficient in standard word processing and software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint or similar; Be proficient in standard office automation equipment, scanner, printer, etc.).

English and French are the working languages of the (COMPANY NAME) Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
Knowledge of an additional UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the (COMPANY NAME) Secretariat.
