This internship is located within the Evaluations Team, in the Division of Policy, Evaluation and Training (DPET), in the Department of Peace Operations at (COMPANY NAME) Headquarters in New York.
The Department of Peace Operations was established to provide political and executive direction to UN peacekeeping operations around the world and maintains contact with the Security Council, troop and financial contributors, and parties to the conflict in the implementation of Security Council mandates.
DPET oversees the policy and doctrine guiding the work of peacekeeping. In addition, the division has the responsibility to evaluate, at the request of the heads of the departments, how those policies are being applied, gather lessons learned and best practices, and use that information to guide the development, coordination and delivery of standardized training, so as to complete the learning cycle. DPET is also responsible for developing and maintaining strategic cooperation with various UN and external partners.
The Evaluation Team is now mandated to support the development, piloting, and implementation of CPAS in all peacekeeping missions; provide ongoing technical and on-the- ground support to the implementation and management of CPAS in missions; to integrate and/or align CPAS with other UN planning, performance assessment, and IT systems to ensure coherence; and institutionalize CPAS as a UN planning and performance tool with supporting policy and guidance.
The Intern reports to the Information Management Officer.
This internship is for an initial period of two months and may be extended up to six months depending on the needs of the Division.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
The intern works as members of the Evaluations Team. Under the overall guidance of the Chief, Evaluations Team and direct supervision of the Information Management Officer, the incumbent will perform the following functions:
-Develops data collection, analysis and visualization products.
-Carries out statistical analysis of data sets and prepare infographics and Power Point presentations.
-Designs and implements data-driven reports and dashboards using Ms Power BI.
-Develop data collection applications using Microsoft O365 suite - SharePoint, PowerApps, Flow (Power Automate) and Ms SQL.
-Support with online training on the CPAS application and reporting.
-Support with the conception, drafting and production of research papers related to data collection, data storage, Azur Cloud and data-driven reporting using Microsoft paginated report or reporting services.
-Assist with the administration of programme surveys, including question design, online implantation, data collection, analysis and visualization.
-Help develop technical documentation, guidance on tools and procedures on data collection and data visualization tools.
-Performs other duties as required.
