The (COMPANY NAME) Operations and Crisis Unit (UNOCC) is part of the Office of the Director for Coordination and Shared Services (ODCSS) serving the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) and Peace Operations (DPO). ODCSS enables, directs and coordinates departmental efforts to ensure the effective integration and management of both Departments.
The Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) focuses primarily on five action areas in international peace and security, ensuring sound analysis and early warning, preventing conflict and engaging in peacemaking, managing political crises and violent conflicts, sustaining peace, and enhancing partnerships. The Department's mandate is to prevent and resolve conflict through inclusive political solutions.
The Department of Peace Operations (DPO) serves as a center of excellence for peace operations, responsible for preventing, responding to and managing conflict and sustaining peace in countries where peace operations under its purview are deployed, and provides support to other entities on peace and security issues.
The UNOCC provides rapid situational awareness and analysis of events in the field, in order to enable informed, coordinated and timely decision-making and strategic engagement on operations and crisis management at UN Headquarters (UNHQ) through 24/7 support to senior managers across the UN system. The UNOCC Research and Liaison Unit provides the UNOCC with an analytical capacity to undertake in-depth and mid to long-term research studies on current political, security and operational issues affecting UN field missions.
UNOCC internships are for an ideal period of six (6) months. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week.
Under the overall supervision of the Coordination Officer, Research and Liaison Unit (RLU), the Intern will:
- Support the RLU analysts in conducting research (quantitative and qualitative) on a range of political and security developments, human rights, economic and social developments, and humanitarian issues, preparing integrated analytical briefs, and monitoring situations of interest;
- Support the RLU analysts in analyzing and visualizing data, creating maps and developing infographic materials;
- Support RLU information management efforts, including by researching data sources, creating structured datasets, and maintaining databases to enable analysis;
- Support the preparation of weekly presentations to Member States (Troop and Police Contributing Countries), including by compiling, processing and visualizing data;
- Support the Director of the UNOCC in preparing presentations to the Senior Management and external stakeholders; and,
- Undertake other assignments as required.

To qualify for an internship with the (COMPANY NAME) Internship Programme, the following
conditions must be met:
1.Applicants at the time of application must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or,
(b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent)
2. Proficient in standard word processing and software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint or similar; Be proficient in standard office automation equipment, scanner, printer, etc.).

Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, including Word and PowerPoint, is required
Knowledge of managing data within Excel, and using tools to collate and present data effectively, is required
Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, ARC GIS, Microsoft Power BI, Tableau or other data visualization/infographic platforms is highly desirable
Knowledge of basic humanitarian and human rights challenges is desirable
