Job Description:

This internship is located in the Evaluations Team in the Division of Policy, Evaluation and Training, in the Department of Peace Operations at (COMPANY NAME) Headquarters in New York.

The Department of Peace Operations was established to provide political and executive direction to UN peacekeeping operations around the world and maintains contact with the Security Council, troop and financial contributors, and parties to the conflict in the implementation of Security Council mandates.

DPET oversees the policy and doctrine guiding the work of peacekeeping. In addition, the division has the responsibility to evaluate, at the request of the heads of the departments, how those policies are being applied, gather lessons learned and best practices, and use that information to guide the development, coordination and delivery of standardized training, so as to complete the learning cycle. DPET is also responsible for developing and maintaining strategic cooperation with various UN and external partners.

The Evaluations Team is now mandated to support the development, piloting, and implementation of CPAS in all peacekeeping missions; provide ongoing technical and on-the- ground support to the implementation and management of CPAS in missions; to integrate and/or align CPAS with other UN planning, performance assessment, and IT systems to ensure coherence; and institutionalize CPAS as a UN planning and performance tool with supporting policy and guidance.

The Intern reports to the Programme Management Officer.

This internship is for an initial period of four months and may be extended up to six months depending on the needs of the Division.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

ˇ Assistance in conducting research on issues relevant to the work of the Evaluations Team, in reviewing existing policies and tools on performance monitoring and performance;

ˇ Assistance in preparing reports, concept papers, policy documents, talking points, articles and other materials;

ˇ Support the development of peacekeeping mission results frameworks for the CPAS;

ˇ Assist in identifying data sources (based on the context analysis and the identification of indicators) that would provide the required information to CPAS;

ˇ Participate in the analysis of mission performance;

ˇ Attending and taking notes at online conferences and meetings;

ˇ And other duties as requested.

Education

To qualify for an internship with the (COMPANY NAME) Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

1.Applicants at the time of application must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree
or equivalent, or higher); or,
(b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree
programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent)

2.The field of study must be closely related to the type of internship you are applying for.

3. Proficient in standard word processing and software applications such as Microsoft Word,
Excel and PowerPoint or similar; Be proficient in standard office automation equipment,
scanner, printer, etc.).

4.Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the (COMPANY NAME) and have a personal
commitment to the ideals of the (COMPANY NAME) Charter.

5.Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural
backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of
differing opinions and views

Work Experience

No working experience is required to apply for the (COMPANY NAME) Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the (COMPANY NAME) during your internship.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the (COMPANY NAME) Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the (COMPANY NAME) Secretariat.

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel and access to UN premises. Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely for a part or the entirety of the internship.
