The (COMPANY NAME) Reality Labs (FRL) Team brings together a world-class team of researchers, developers, and engineers to create the future of virtual and augmented reality, which together will become as universal and essential as smartphones and personal computers are today. Just as personal computers have done over the past 45 years, AR and VR will ultimately change everything about how we work, play, and connect.
We are developing technologies needed to enable breakthrough AR glasses that rely on photopolymers and volume Bragg gratings, and hence have the potential to disrupt other more-established directions.
Our internships are twelve (12) to sixteen (16) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.
Optical-Material Engineering Intern (PhD) Responsibilities
Perform literature survey of methods to simulate mechanical shrinkage of photo-polymers when exposed to light
Perform simulation to analyze photopolymerization shrinkage either using commercial tools or writing custom code
Help build optical setup to measure shrinkage
Close the loop between experimental result and simulation
Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD degree in the field of Optical Science or Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Mechanical Engineering or a related field
Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
Experience coding or using commercial FEA (Finite Element Analysis) modules
Familiarity with material modeling, Elastic and Visco-Elastic
Experience with physical optics
Experience with designing/building bench-top optical systems
Experience in one or more engineering tools such as MATLAB, or Python
Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship
Experience with modeling photopolymers
Experience with working with photopolymers
