Job Description:

The Internship is in the Outreach Division of the Department of Global Communications. It is for a period of two months but expected to be extended to up to six months, subject to good performance and continued needs (which is almost always the case), starting in mid-June/early July 2021 and running to December 2021. Candidates MUST therefore be available for up to six months.

The Outreach Division works to promote the ideals and activities of the (COMPANY NAME). Through programming, events and campaigns, the division engages partners and stakeholders across various spheres of the public and private sector as well as civil society and local communities worldwide to accelerate the action for the Sustainable Development Goals.

The position is located in the Director's Office of the Outreach Division. Depending on the candidate's educational background, professional experience, and interests, the selected intern may work more closely with the Director's Office on Special Projects, which may include the UN presence at Expo in Dubai, or with the Exhibits unit. Selected interns will be part of the Director┤s Office and cooperate on tasks central to the division.

The internships are unpaid and full-time. Interns work five days a week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, interns may be required to work remotely (from their home or elsewhere) unless and until a decision is made that they may work from the office in New York. This decision will be at the discretion of the Organization, and it is not possible to foresee whether or when this will happen.

Responsibilities

The selected interns will be part of a team which supports the Director of the Division, who is also the Commissioner-General for the UN pavilion and presence at the World Expo in Dubai. Expo 2020 will, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, take place from 1 October 2xxx - x1 March 2022.

Selected interns will participate in the day-to-day work at the Director┤s Office of the Outreach Division and support the office on drafting concept notes, background information, taking minutes, scheduling meetings and other ad hoc tasks as required. In addition, the interns will have the following tasks:

*Researches, compiles and organizes materials for use in preparation of the UN┤s participation in events at Expo 2020 and/or in the development of UN exhibitions.

*Supports the coordination with UN entities on activities at Expo, including maintaining and updating the calendar of events and other relevant information for UN stakeholders.

*Supports in logistical and administrative tasks related to partnerships and outreach, including event/project planning and management; scheduling meetings and compiling relevant information prior to meetings; and responding to or drafting responses to a wide range of correspondence and other communications.

*Supports communication and outreach activities in relation to the UN┤s participation at Expo and/or UN exhibitions, including drafting and editing website content/news stories and social media content; updating the UN webpage under guidance from UN Web colleagues; and monitoring social media output.

*Supports the planning and logistics of Expo visits for UN delegations to the Expo site that the Outreach Director might be involved in.

The above descriptions are generic, and interns will be expected to support other functions based on needs and on their abilities. All interns are expected to be flexible, and perform different types of relevant duties in support of colleagues as may be needed.

Education

Please note that to qualify for an internship with the (COMPANY NAME) Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
(b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent)

Applicants must also:
- Be computer literate in standard software applications
- Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the (COMPANY NAME) and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter
-Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is related to the type of internship that you are applying to is required.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the (COMPANY NAME) Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of other (COMPANY NAME) official languages is desirable.
