Job Description:

The internship with the Office of the Director (OD) of the Office of Intergovernmental Support and Coordination for Sustainable Development (OISC), of the (COMPANY NAME) Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) is for two (2) months -- to start as soon as possible -- with an opportunity for extension up to a maximum of six (6) months, pending the needs of the Office.

The internship is UNPAID and full time.
Interns will work fully remotely/home-based in line with the arrangements made by the (COMPANY NAME) during the COVID19 Pandemic.
Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the work unit to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individuals' background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period. Duties may include but are not limited to:

*Assist in the preparation of conferences and meetings related to the 2021 High-level Political Forum on sustainable development (HLPF) and the Voluntary National Review preparatory process;
*Conduct research and analysis in multiple policy areas related to the implementation of 2030 Agenda for sustainable development and the Sustainable Development Goals;
*Assist in the preparation of substantive documentation, providing input to speeches, background notes, briefs and presentations.
*Follow the work of the ECOSOC and the HLPF to identify key issues and trends;
*Analyze a variety qualitative or quantitative sustainable development data and prepare related charts, tables, data visualizations or infographics;
*Follow various intergovernmental meetings in General Assembly, ECOSOC and the HLPF and prepare draft summaries of intergovernmental discussions and consultations, upon request.
*Assist with information and database management.

The intern is expected to:

*Have demonstrated strong writing skills and a demonstrated ability to analyze written information and policy discussions to provide succinct analyses of key messages in the form of summaries, briefings, background notes and other materials.
*Have a demonstrated ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative data and create data visualizations and infographics based on tables, figures and statistical results.

Education

To qualify for an internship with the (COMPANY NAME) Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
* Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or
(c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;

* Be computer literate in standard software applications.

Work Experience

No working experience is required to apply for the (COMPANY NAME) Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the (COMPANY NAME) during your internship.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the (COMPANY NAME) Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the Internship Programme.
Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the Untied Nations Secretariat.

G-4 VISAS FOR INTERNS:
All interns assigned to a UN Organization, including Funds and Programmes, at a United States based duty station, who are not United States citizens or United States legal permanent residents (LPR) will be required to obtain G-4 visas prior to travelling to the United States.

Prospective interns who are already in the United States in another nonimmigrant status may need to apply for a change of status to G-4 prior to joining the (COMPANY NAME) for an internship. It should be emphasized that prospective interns are responsible for ensuring that they have an appropriate valid visa and employment authorization allowing them to undertake the internship.

If the applicant is in F-1 status and has a valid EAD, they may undertake an internship within the scope of their F-1 visa without seeking a change of visa status. Please note, however, that interns in F-1 status who wish to undertake an internship following completion of their academic programme as part of Optional Practical Training (OPT) 'may' need to seek a change of visa status to G-4 (This process currently takes about 8-10 weeks) or obtain G-4 visa overseas.

To qualify for G-4 nonimmigrant status, interns must be serving essentially full-time, i.e. 35 + hours per week.

REMOTE INTERNSHIP (COVID-19):
In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel and access to UN premises. Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely for a part or the entirety of the internship.
