The position is located in the Arabic Language Unit, of the News and Media Division, News Section II (Department of Global Communications), which produces news, features, multimedia stories and social media posts. The internship is for three months with an opportunity for extension for up to six months, depending on the needs of the department. The internship is unpaid and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of the Chief of the Arabic News Unit.
The unit is seeking interns interested in gaining professional, hands-on experience with multimedia functions, specifically in news production, digital audio and video recording and editing, and social media projects. Functions will include assisting in the production of stories for various platforms.
The intern may also collaborate with staff on social media, including- Twitter, Facebook, YouTube - Experience with these platforms is highly desirable.
The intern will be providing editorial and technical assistance to content producers.

To qualify for an internship with the (COMPANY NAME) New York Headquarters Internship Programme, Department of Global Communications, the following conditions must be met:

(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme in broadcasting, journalism, communications, multimedia or media studies (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme in broadcasting, journalism, communications, multimedia or media studies (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree in broadcasting, journalism, communications, multimedia or media studies (as defined in (a) or (b) above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;
2. Be computer literate in standard word processing and spreadsheets software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel or similar;
3. Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the (COMPANY NAME) and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
4. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
No professional work experience required.

For the internship advertised, fluency in both English and Arabic is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
