The Legal function provides legal advice to all of (COMPANY NAME)' businesses and infrastructure functions, including areas such as transactional support, litigation management, commercial contract support and general legal advice, and provides dedicated business-aligned support to all divisions of (COMPANY NAME).

Overall purpose of role
§ The (COMPANY NAME) UK (BUK) business offers investment services ranging from discretionary portfolio management and investment advice (provided by UK Wealth Managers) to our online execution only platform ((COMPANY NAME) Smart Investor).
§ As well as distributing third party products through these channels, BUK also manufactures and manages its own range of investment funds and administers share and reward plans for employers (Global Stock and Rewards).
§ Following the successful implementation of ring-fencing the business continues to require expert legal support with the design, development and maintenance of investment propositions, implementation of further regulatory change and preparations for Brexit.
§ The Investment Products and Services team provides that specialist resource and requires an experienced lawyer to join this highly motivated and collaborative team.
§ Delivering expert and timely legal advice to enable the business to deliver on its objectives in a sustainable and compliant way and ensure good outcomes for clients and customers.
§ Liaising with lawyers in other teams to provide consistent support, while acting as a "centre of excellence" for investment product and service related legal issues.
§ Drafting and negotiating contractual arrangements including client facing terms and intra-group or third party arrangements.
§ Providing appropriate risk based advice to help the business respond to change and influence strategy.
Stakeholder Management and Leadership
§ Promote and facilitate collaboration with other infrastructure teams (Compliance, Financial Crime, Tax and Risk).
§ Develop a strong partnership with the business; provide appropriate challenge and remain robust in the face of challenge to deliver the best possible outcomes.
§ Ensure that legal senior management are appropriately briefed on emerging risks and issues, and show ownership in seeking buy-in or escalation where this is required.

Risk and Control Objective
All (COMPANY NAME) colleagues have to ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal (COMPANY NAME) Policies and Policy Standards.
The successful candidate will be skilled in identifying legal and non-legal risks and issues that could impact the BUK Wealth and Investment Management business. They will ensure that legal risks and issues are understood by the business and provide assistance where required to identify and implement solutions. They will be proactive in embedding Legal's Risk Management Framework and ensuring compliance with the relevant policies and standards e.g. on Legal Engagement and Use of Law Firms.
Person Specification and Experience
§ Qualified lawyer (admitted to practice in the UK) with strong academic record and appropriate training record.
§ Familiarity with investment products and services and applicable regulations, and ideally with their application to a UK retail-focused business.
§ Strong technical expertise with a "growth" mindset (continually learning and developing) and a proven ability to adapt to different areas of work.
