As Legal Counsel for the Marketing, Technology and Payments) legal team, you'll be a key point of contact for the business on technology contracts, global marketing campaigns, commercial partnerships, copy clearance, advertising and consumer regulatory advice, and everything in between.
This role will support the breadth of the TPM legal team, to assist Senior Counsel in each sub-area of Marketing, Technology and Payments - but there will be the opportunity, if desired, to support Senior Counsel on matters outside of these areas, including Retail and Supply Chain matters.

The role is therefore critical in helping the (COMPANY NAME) Legal Team meet the needs and requirements of all elements of (COMPANY NAME)' business across the globe, requiring the ability to give commercial as well as legal advice, often on cross-border matters, and to promptly identify risks and issues that need to be escalated within the company.

The role requires someone who is hands-on and commercially minded, with a strong professional ethic and the energy, interest and training to pursue a broad array of corporate, commercial, legal and risk/reputation management matters. This role sits within the TPM team - which covers a lot of ground - and it can only do that by being flexible, adaptable and agile - both within the business and between themselves. The TPM team sits within (COMPANY NAME)' wider Governance team, alongside Supply Chain and Retail Legal teams, as well as other vital governance functions. This results in a highly collaborative environment, with the opportunity to enjoy a huge variety of often innovative legal and commercial challenges.

What you'll be doing...

This is a hands-on, commercially focused, highly supportive legal role - you will be supporting the Head of Legal for Technology, Payments & Marketing, as well as the team's two Senior Counsel and be responsible for partnering with, guiding and supporting the needs of (COMPANY NAME)' Tech and Marketing communities. There are several key elements to the role:


* Review, drafting and negotiation of the full range of Tech contracts for software development and licensing, SaaS, PaaS, hosting, service level agreements, telecoms, consultancy services, outsourcing and hardware provision. Providing specialist sector knowledge and expertise on the Tech aspects of other contracts and negotiations.
* Advising on the implementation of Tech programmes - i.e. for Retail (e.g. Retail Management Systems), Supply Chain (e.g. Warehouse Management Systems), Finance (Finance System) and our People Team.
* Work closely with our Tech Teams to assist with the development of (COMPANY NAME)' various ecommerce offerings (website, mobile-web, apps, etc) and advise on new technologies, including opportunities and inherent risks.
* Able to support the due diligence and commercial analysis for start-up partnerships and/or acquisitions and proof of concept phases for new technology.
* Have a cutting-edge knowledge of the Tech landscape, providing informed insights and updates on relevant Legal developments to the Tech community and be a recognised Tech expert in Legal.
* Identify areas of leverage and opportunities for improvement in existing TCS arrangements.
* Being a general all-round Tech superstar, and a sounding board and trusted, commercially orientated advisor to Tech Leadership.


* Assisting in drafting and negotiating the full range of financial and payment services contracts.
* Providing knowledge and expertise on the finance/ payments aspects of other contracts and negotiations generally as well as pertinent related regulatory matters.
* Working closely with Finance, Tech & Procurement Teams to assist with the implementation of payment/ FinTech developments, supporting our various ecommerce offerings (website, mobile-web, apps, etc), and advise on new opportunities and inherent risks.
* Translating knowledge of the finance/financial regulation and the global payments ecosystem into the (COMPANY NAME) environment.

Marketing, Commercial and Reputation

* Working closely with the Brand Experience team to ensure that (COMPANY NAME)' global marketing campaigns, commercial partnerships and competitions or promotions are compliant with relevant advertising regulations and Consumer Protection regulation across multiple territories, including copy clearance, managing any ASA or CMA complaints related to advertising and ensuring the (COMPANY NAME) websites are up to date at all times.
* Negotiating contracts and IP rights relating to marketing and customer-facing projects, including projects with a wide array of influencers and (COMPANY NAME) Insiders.
* Working collectively with the Procurement Team, provide appropriate legal support and assistance to all departments in the business on a broad range of commercial contracts including tech, adtech, affiliate relationships, brand partnerships, public relations and creative agencies, whilst ensuring that all critical commercial and regulatory requirements (such as data protection) are appropriately covered.
* Assisting in the maintenance and development of the (COMPANY NAME) contract database, agreement templates and contract playbooks.
* Dealing appropriately and efficiently with any brand reputation issues alongside the (COMPANY NAME) press team, whilst also assisting with any customer issues that cannot be resolved solely by Customer Care.

Team & Management

* You will report to the Head of Legal for Technology and Payments and will have the opportunity to work closely with many senior members of our Legal Team.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external counsel.
* Manage and support on legal and commercial aspects of critical projects.
* Identify the need for external legal advice and escalate legal matters accordingly.
* Identify and help to prepare and deliver training to the Legal team and to the business on relevant legal and commercial issues.
* Be the key point of contact to drive projects forward with multiple stakeholders.

We'd love to meet someone with...

* General commercial legal experience (technology and marketing-related would be a bonus), gained from private practice or in-house positions.
* Will suit someone who loves ecommerce retail and innovative tech.
* Qualified Solicitor (experience post qualification is essential).
* Excellent IT skills, particularly in relation to the use of Sharepoint, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and ideally an enthusiastic early adopter of new Technology generally.
* Communication is key to any role in this Legal Department, as our team members continually build relationships at all levels across the business, at the same time as working together to deliver what's needed, when needed, by whatever means necessary. All Legal team members should be approachable & capable of adapting their approach and communications to ensure excellent interaction with the wide variety of people and personalities across the unique environment of (COMPANY NAME).
