Ships Mechanical Fitter
Would you like to play a key role in the ever-growing maritime business unit? We currently have a vacancy for a Ships Mechanical Fitter at our site in Portsmouth.
As a Ships Mechanical Fitter, you will be working within workshop facilities or afloat areas for repair and the manufacture of projects for our Ministry of Defence and other military and commercial customers.
This role will provide you with an opportunity to work as part of a large team within our maritime business function as well as providing you with a variety of projects to work within, including a number of different vessels.
Your main responsibilities as a Ships Mechanical Fitter will involve:
Carry out a Trade specific Take 5 plus 5 dynamic risk assessment before every task
Abide by all risk assessments, BAE polices and the law
Ensure all tools and equipment that are used are suitable, fit for purpose and in date for any inspection required
Attend all training courses, TBT and briefings where possible
Carry out planned and reactive maintenance, overhaul and repair on a variety of mechanical equipment machinery and systems
Removal, overhaul, repair, Installation and testing of Mechanical equipment, machinery and systems
Ensure all tools and equipment being used are suitable and in date for any inspection required
Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers, managing their expectations and needs
Complete works as detailed by team leader
Report all accidents, incidents and near misses via the appropriate reporting tool
Have a Business issued mobile phone to unsure full mobile working capability
Your skills and qualifications:
Recognised apprenticeship or industry / naval equivalent qualifications within the mechanical sector
Sound knowledge of mechanical systems and associated equipment
Have a good understanding of safe systems including tag-out (loto), confined spaces, work at height and Royal Navy specific safety operations
Willing to undertake additional training to be able to undertake extraneous duties to support the production team
Candidates must be flexible to undertake tasks across any trade disciplines as required
Flexible approach to delivering work at various sites as required
Shaft line and dock bottom experience, high- and low-pressure pump experience
