Description of the department:
Development of future spaceborne Radar Systems and Subsystems for diverse customers (ESA, DLR)
Implementation of a fault tolerant processor for a space grade FPGA.
For future satellite radar missions the controlling of the spaceborne radar instrument, i.e. the processor running the application software, is to be integrated as FPGA Core together with other instrument functions.
In the frame of the thesis the 32-bit processor shall be incorporated in a VHDL design and synthesized for a particular FPGA. The implementation shall be analysed and verified by measurements in terms of performance, FPGA timing, resource utilization etc.
The outcome of this thesis is a basis for definition of the control strategy for future spaceborne radar instruments.
You will learn about:
* VHDL design,
* implementation and integration
* Satellite development,
* Synthetic Aperture Radar Instruments,
* FPGA design,
* processor architecture
Design, implementation and integration of processor and related IP cores
Commissioning, testing and verification of implemented design.
* Enrolled Master student (d/f/m) within electrical engineering, embedded systems, systems- / communication engineering or similar field of study
* Experience with FPGA development and integration
* Experience with VHDL / VHDL design tools
* Experience in operation of laboratory equipment is an asset
* English and/or German fluent
You are a good team player, have excellent communication skills, and are able to work independently.
