Org. Setting and Reporting
The Financing for Sustainable Development Office (FSDO) / Department of Economic Affairs (DESA) internship is for two months with an opportunity for extension up to a maximum of 6 months pending the needs of the Department.
This position is located in the Office of the Director of FSDO/DESA. The FSDO works to advance policy and action on financing for sustainable development to support Member States and other stakeholders in achieving internationally agreed development goals, by providing thought leadership and agenda-shaping, promoting multistakeholder dialogue, identifying policy options and best practices, and offering strategic advice and support for capacity development in key areas. FSDO serves as focal point in the (COMPANY NAME) system for the intergovernmental and interagency expert processes on followup to the Financing for Development outcomes. The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
*Assisting in drafting and preparing official documents
*Attending and summarizing conferences and meetings
*Assisting in preparing document; conducting legal and internet research
*Assistance during conferences
*Working on web-presentation
*Evaluation of projects

Planning & Organizing:

The intern is expected to:
* Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the (COMPANY NAME) and a personal commitment to the ideals of the (COMPANY NAME) Charter; and
* Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
To qualify for an internship with the (COMPANY NAME) Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
* Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or
(c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;
* Be computer literate in standard software applications.
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the Programme.
English and French are the working languages of the (COMPANY NAME) Secretariat. Fluency in oral and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the (COMPANY NAME) Secretariat.
