This internship is with the Human Security Unit (HSU). The overall objective of the HSU is to integrate the human security approach into the work of the UN system and to strengthen the Organization's response to multiple and complex challenges. By combining the management of the UN Trust Fund for Human Security (UNTFHS) with advocacy and outreach activities, the HSU plays a pivotal role in translating the human security approach into concrete outcomes. Today, the principles of human security are mainstreamed in key global agendas.

The internship with the HSU, located in New York, is for a duration of three months.

Depending on the needs of the unit and upon satisfactory performance of the intern, there is a possibility for an extension for another three months. The total duration of the entire internship period is six months at maximum. Under no circumstances will there be extension beyond six months.

The internship is unpaid and can be either part-time or full-time. Interns work four to five days per week (20-35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the unit to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Chief of the HSU, the intern will assist the HSU in undertaking research and developing strategies for the short, medium and long-term outreach and resource mobilization for the UNTFHS in line with the Unit's strategic objectives and workplan. This includes the following:

* Provide support in research and analysis for the elaboration, planning and implementation of resource mobilization activities.
(i) Research potential sources of funding from national, international, governmental, non-governmental and private sector organizations, and compile information in a user-friendly format for analysis.
(ii) Undertake in-depth research and analysis on target donors, utilizing multiple sources of information including social media accounts.
(iii) Draft and update donor profiles.
(iv) Identify opportunities to expand strategic partnerships.
(v) Contribute to the preparations of donor meetings, including preparing information packets and drafting background notes.
(vi) Takes notes during meetings of the Chief and provide meeting summaries with action points.

* Support in the development of system to manage donor information to track relevant analysis, background documents and communications and maintain an up-to-date list of contact information.

* Contribute to the preparation of communications materials and donor documents
(i) Provide inputs for the donor package and donor-specific materials.
(ii) Draft social media posts to raise visibility and engage with potential and existing partners.
(iii) Undertake media analysis, including compiling headlines from Member States and prospective donors.

* Perform other work-related duties as required.

Education

To qualify for an internship with the (COMPANY NAME) Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);

Work Experience

No working experience is required to apply for the (COMPANY NAME) Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the (COMPANY NAME) during your internship.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the (COMPANY NAME) Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.

Knowledge of an additional official UN language is desirable. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the (COMPANY NAME) Secretariat.

Assessment

For internships in the United States of America, interns who are not United States citizens, permanent residents or not currently in the United States on a nonimmigrant visa status will be required to obtain a G-4 visa. If already in the United States of America on another non-immigrant visa status other than G-4, interns will be responsible for ensuring that they have a valid visa, and if required, employment authorization, allowing them to undertake the internship.
