WWF seeks a Media & External Affairs (MXA) intern to help support the team's overall functions and provide media relations and communications support, particularly around the organization's work with private sector partners, food, forests, markets and climate. The team designs and executes media relations and influencer engagement strategies to support our conservation mission. The team engages in and influences the public discourse to: advance priority conservation and advocacy goals; enhance WWF's relevance with key partners; increase understanding and support for conservation and sustainability broadly; and help expand the thought leadership of WWF experts.
* Supports core media relations administrative and operational duties for the team, including monitoring and reporting when WWF appears in the news and compiling media reports for specific campaigns, developing and maintaining current journalist outreach lists, and other specific media relations tasks as assigned.
* Identifies new outlets and opportunities for earned media placement.
* Assists with developing press materials, including statements, talking points, and media advisories.
Key Events Support
* Supports media relations and social media efforts around three major global moments, including the UN General Assembly and Climate Week (mid-September), the 3rd round of negotiations for a UN Global Treaty to End Plastic Pollution - INC3 (mid-November), and the UN Climate Change Conference - COP28 (late-November).
Owned Content & Social Media
* Supports additional written content for WWF's private sector engagement external communications work, including blogs for WWF's Sustainability Works platform.
* Develops and reviews dynamic content for social media, specifically helping support WWF's Sustainability Works Twitter handle, WWFNews Twitter handle and LinkedIn channel (social graphics, animations, infographics, text-only witty content, etc.).
* Develops content and plans to promote WWF's Nature Breaking podcast
* Monitors social media influencers and identifies opportunities for engagement.
* Tracks traditional and social media metrics to evaluate effectiveness.
* Collaborates with managers to implement communications plans as appropriate.
* Additional duties as assigned.

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Strong writing skills are required.

* Strong organizational/analytical skills.
* Highly motivated, self-starter who knows how to take projects and run with them.
* Able to prioritize deadlines, work on multiple projects, and manage relationships across the organization.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required. Experience or willingness to learn Mailchimp and Airtable.
* Working knowledge of Canva, Photoshop, InDesign and other content editing software a plus.
* Proficiency and demonstrated understanding/expertise in social media content development (Twitter).
* Knowledge of the ever-changing media landscape a plus.
* Interest in corporate sustainability and climate change and comfortable working with external partners.
* Identifies and aligns with WWF's core values: Courage, Integrity, Respect, and Collaboration.
* A Bachelor's degree or anticipated Bachelor's degree in communications is preferred.
* Media relations and/or communications experience a plus.
* Ability to work full time (4 days per week) for the duration of the internship.
US hybrid in Washington, DC or remote. All candidates are required to be available to work Eastern Standard time. WWF employs interns in all states with the exception of: Alabama, Hawaii, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Nevada, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Wyoming.
Compensation Paid, $17 per hour, full time for an average of 35 hours per week.
