This position is located in the Editing Section, Languages Service, Division of Conference Management, (COMPANY NAME) Office at Geneva.
Under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Editing Section, the Editor is responsible for the following duties:
* Edits and reviews publications and parliamentary documents, including complex or politically sensitive material, normally without revision, to ensure accuracy, clarity, cohesion and conformity with (COMPANY NAME) standards, policy and practice.
* Carries out more extensive editing where required, including rewriting, abridging and restructuring texts for greater readability and better logical sequence.
* Consults with author departments and carries out research to clarify ambiguities and rectify substantive errors.
* Produces the master copy of a text to be followed by a multilingual team of editors.
* Acts as head of a team of editors, editorial assistants, proofreaders and other staff; leads, supervises and coordinates their work; prepares their performance appraisal reports and reports to the Chief of Section on staff performance.
* Assists the Chief of Section in managing policy, administrative and operational matters.
* Trains junior or short-term language staff and revises their work.
* Assists staff of substantive units and delegations with the drafting of documentation and provides advice on matters concerning editorial policy and practice.
* Acts for head of office or group in his or her absence.
* Performs other related duties as required.

A first-level degree from a university or institution of equivalent status. Candidates for this position must have passed the combined (COMPANY NAME) Competitive Examination for Translators/Précis-writers, Editors, Verbatim Reporters and Copy Preparers/Proofreaders/Production Editors in Russian or any (COMPANY NAME) Language Competitive Examination in Russian held before 2017.
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in editing, translation, précis-writing, self-revision, verbatim reporting, copy preparing, proofreading, production editing or in another relevant language field, and using relevant computer software, electronic tools and databases, is required
Three (3) years within a multilingual setting is desirable.
Extensive experience in editing publications and documents on international law is desirable.
Experience in planning, writing, copy-preparation, proofreading and the production of publications is an asset.
English and French are the working languages of the (COMPANY NAME) Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in Russian, which must be the candidate's main language, and fluency in English and in at least one other official language, preferably French, as tested by one of the above-mentioned (COMPANY NAME) Competitive Examinations, are required.
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
