The Internship is located in the Sales and Marketing Section ("UN Publications"), Outreach Division of the Department of Global Communications (DGC). The section is seeking suitably qualified interns for the Fall/Winter of 2020, with a projected start date of 1 September 2020. UN internships are for a minimum period of two months and may be extended to a maximum of six months, depending on the needs of DGC and the willingness of applicant.
UN Publications is the official source for (COMPANY NAME) books, journals, and data. All this research is produced by the UN Secretariat Departments, agencies, funds, and programs. We make our publications available through both commercial and free channels to increase the visibility and discoverability of our research and data. We promote the knowledge and work of the UN to scholars, information specialists, policy makers and influencers around the world. We publish some 400-500 new books and reports every year that contain research covering the (COMPANY NAME)' priorities, such as international peace and security, human rights, sustainable development, climate change, international law and more.
The internship is unpaid and full-time.
Interns work five days a week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned.
The candidate will report to the Publishing Officer.
Electronic product development
*Assist in the quality control of the beta version and final version of the new UN iLibrary
*Assist in the quality control of the beta version and final version of the flash drive that accompanies the print version of the ADR (European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road)
*Assist with the research and development of new electronic products created in house.
*Research potential vendors and requirements for these products.
*Proactively contribute suggestions and ideas for new projects that will be developed in house for external audiences.
*Serve as a liaison with authors and author departments across the organization on various production and publishing issues.
*Revise and edit metadata in the department's title management system on a semi regular basis.
*Build up the publishing program in underserved areas (peacebuilding and peacekeeping, for example) by conducting research online of UN author departments that specialize in this area and identifying new potential titles to formally publish.
*Coordinate work related to the UN Publications Catalogue.
*Conduct online research, download and organize titles for the Official Records project.
*Support the UN's mobile app program.
*Create a spreadsheet-and update as needed-detailing all products in the UN's mobile application program.
*Liaise with departments on the various stages of review and requirements and contact them once app is approved for program inclusion.
*Manage the quality control check of publication product pages on the UN's online bookstore, wxx.xxxx.xx.xxx.
*Assist in the creation of a new (COMPANY NAME) Publications Readers Survey for external audiences and a Client Satisfaction Survey internally for author departments across the organization.
*Design and produce presentations and supporting materials to increase UN Publications' visibility and outreach.
*Assist the office with marketing, social media promotion, and special events as needed.

To qualify for an internship with the (COMPANY NAME) Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
- Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme in journalism, communication, media studies, filmmaking, international relations or related field (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or
(c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;
- Be computer literate in standard software applications;
- Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the (COMPANY NAME) and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is desirable.
English and French are working languages of the UN Secretariat. Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of the other is desirable.
