This position is located in the Policy and Best Practices Service (PBPS), Division of Policy, Evaluation and Training (DEPT) in the Department of Peace Operations. The internship is UNPAID. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Responsibilities of this internship will encompass many aspects of the Peacekeeping Policy
and Best Practices Service's work. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Assistance in conducting research on issues related to Peacekeeping Policy and Best Practices, areas of focus include: Child Protection and Conflict-Related Sexual Violence * Assistance in statistical analysis or data extractions; Assistance in the review of various policies, papers and other documents/materials as they relate the to the teams within the Service;
* Assistance in preparing reports, concept papers, policy documents, talking points, articles and other materials related to the work of the various teams within the Service;
* Assistance in the development of strategic communications, presentations and visualizations;
* Attending and taking notes at conferences and meetings;
* Assistance in servicing conferences and meetings;
* Assistance in information management.

Applicants must be enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school (second university of higher); or if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree. Focus of studies in international affairs, law, human rights, political science or a related field is desirable; Be computer literate in standard software applications; Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the (COMPANY NAME) and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and have demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Applicants are not required to have professional experience for participation in the Programme, but experience in peacekeeping missions, international organizations, non-governmental organizations and/or humanitarian settings is desirable. Knowledge/background in programme evaluations, project management, use of various software and media platforms, databases and dashboards for data analysis and data visualization (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, EFM Verint, Power BI, SharePoint) or related field is highly desirable. Candidates with experience related to Child Protection and/or Sexual and Gender-Based Violence/Conflict-Related Sexual Violence are particularly encouraged to apply.
English and French are the working languages of the (COMPANY NAME) Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
