This internship position is located within the Evaluation Team, Policy Evaluation and Training Division, Department of Peace Operations (DPO). The internship is for two months with an opportunity for extension, depending on the needs of the Office. Interns work for up to five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. The internship is UNPAID and can either be full-time or part-time.
In light of the current pandemic, the selected intern may have the option to telecommute for the entire duration of the internship and can do so from their home country. Compliance with UN cybersecurity rules and regulations will be mandatory (ST/SGB/2004/15).
The mandate of the Policy, Evaluation and Training Division (DPET) was established by the General Assembly in its resolution 61/279 and was extended in its resolution 67/287. The functions of the Division are set out in the Secretary-General's Bulletin on the Organization of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations (ST/SGB/2010/1). The Division comprises the Office of the Director (which includes the Evaluation Team and the Partnerships Team), the Integrated Training Service and the Policy and Best Practices Service.
The Evaluation Team provides the Department of Peace Operations with an internal evaluation mechanism to assist in the effective management of field missions including strengthening operational effectiveness and accountability. Evaluation findings inform policy development and training activities, strengthen Headquarters ability to provide strategic guidance to mission leadership, strengthen DPO planning processes and improve feedback on operational issues for troop and police contributing countries, member states, and legislative bodies.
The Evaluation Team is now mandated to support the development, piloting, and implementation of CPAS in all peacekeeping missions; provide ongoing technical and on-the-ground support to the implementation and management of CPAS in missions; to integrate and/or align CPAS with other UN planning, performance assessment, and IT systems to ensure coherence; and institutionalize CPAS as a UN planning and performance tool with supporting policy and guidance.
Under the overall guidance of the Chief, Evaluation Team and direct supervision of the Information Management Officer, the incumbent will perform the following functions:
- Develops data collection, analysis and visualization products.
- Carries out statistical analysis of data sets and prepare infographics and Power Point presentations.
- Designs and implements data-driven reports and dashboards using Ms Power BI.
- Develop data collection applications using Microsoft O365 suite - Sharepoint, PowerApps, Flow (Power Automate) and Ms SQL.
- Support with online training on the CPAS application and reporting.
- Support with the conception, drafting and production of research papers related to data collection, data storage, Azur Cloud and data-driven reporting using Microsoft paginated report or reporting services.
- Assist with the administration of programme surveys, including question design, online implantation, data collection, analysis and visualization.
- Help develop technical documentation, guidance on tools and procedures on data collection and data visualization tools.

To qualify for an internship with the (COMPANY NAME), one of the following conditions must be met:
(a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in Information and Communications Technology, Information Management, Library and Information Science, Archival Science, or Business Administration, with a demonstrated multi-disciplinary specialization in the topic of data or information management (b) or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent) in a relevant field.
