This internship position is located in the (COMPANY NAME) Mine Action Service (UNMAS), Office of Rule of Law and Security Institutions (OROLSI) within the Department of Peace Operations (DPO) in New York.

Established in 1997, the (COMPANY NAME) Mine Action Service (UNMAS) works to eliminate the threat posed by mines, explosive remnants of war and improvised explosive devices by coordinating (COMPANY NAME) mine action, leading operational responses at the country level, and supporting the development of standards, policies and norms.

As a specialized service of the (COMPANY NAME) located within the Department of Peace Operations, UNMAS operates under UN legislative mandates of both the General Assembly and the Security Council. UNMAS also responds to specific requests for support from the UN Secretary-General or designated official.

The Internship is for six (6) months. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities

The intern's role will be to assist Senior Administrative Officer with the various initiatives under the transformation programme at UNMAS in the Department of Peace Operations (DPO). Under the supervision and guidance of the Senior Administrative Officer, specific tasks may include:

- Contribute to the activities associated with process re-engineering projects;
- Prepare As-Is and To-Be process maps for the processes;
- Coordinate with other UNMAS teams to collect data and information about processes;
- Prepare process documentation and reports
- Assist in the digitization of processes
- Organize workshops and meetings for the programme;
- Perform other related duties, as required.

Education

To qualify for an internship with the (COMPANY NAME) Internship Programme, applicants at the time of application must meet one of the following requirements:

(a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent)

*Be computer literate in standard software applications;
*Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the (COMPANY NAME) and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
*Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
Are you a student in a Bachelor's (final year), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have you
completed a degree and are able to commence an internship within a year of graduation?
Will you be able to cover the cost of travel including visa, accommodation and other living expenses for
the duration of the internship?
Is your field of study closely related to the type of internship you are applying for?

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
