Description du poste:

The internship position is located in the Office of the Director for Coordination and Shared Services (ODCSS) for the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and the Department of Peace Operations (DPPA-DPO). The internship is for six months; the desired start time of the internship is 1 September 2020. This Office enables, directs and coordinates departmental efforts to ensure the effective integration and management across the peace and security pillar. The internship is unpaid and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the Department.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

-Implementing activities in accordance with the integrated Gender Parity Action Plan for the pillar.

-Collecting and analyzing information and statistical data

-Supporting change management initiatives

-Coordinating and assisting with specific events

-Other ad hoc duties as assigned.

Competencies

Professionalism: Computer literate including in applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to learn fast and communicate effectively. Ability to work well with data. Ability to apply evaluative skills and conduct independent research and analysis, including providing recommendations as required. Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Communication: Speaks and writes clearly and effectively. Listens to others, correctly interprets messages from others and responds appropriately. Asks questions to clarify, and exhibits interest in having two-way communication. Tailors language, tone, style and format to match the audience. Demonstrates openness in sharing information and keeping people informed.

Planning & Organizing: Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies. Identifies priority activities and assignments. Adjusts priorities as required; allocates appropriate amount of time and resources for completing work. Foresees risks and allows for contingencies when planning. Monitors and adjusts plans and actions as necessary, and uses time efficiently.

Teamwork: Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals. Solicits input by genuinely valuing others' ideas and expertise. Is willing to learn from others. Places team agenda before personal agenda. Supports and acts in accordance with final group decision, even when such decisions may not entirely reflect own position. Shares credit for team accomplishments and accepts joint responsibility for team shortcomings.

Education

We seek candidates with relevant coursework in Design, Web Development, Strategic Design and Management, Marketing, Information Design, Public Relations, Media Studies, Journalism or Data Visualization.

Please note that to qualify for an internship with the (COMPANY NAME) Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
(b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent)
(c) Applicants must also be computer literate in standard software applications; have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the (COMPANY NAME) and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter; have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

Applicants to the (COMPANY NAME) Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
Applicants must be a student in a Bachelor's (final year), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed recently a Bachelor's, Master's or Ph.D. Programme.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the (COMPANY NAME) Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of French is an advantage.
