The Royal Bank of Scotland is a bank providing retail banking services throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The Royal Bank of Scotland was chartered in 1727 and is considered a trail blazer in introducing innovative products and services to the banking sector. The bank is also credited with introducing the Bank Overdraft facility.

The bank prints its own bank notes, even though the Bank of England enjoys a monopoly on issuing notes in England and Wales. The U.K. government holds 82 per cent of the bank’s shares. Ross McEwan is the current CEO of the bank.
