The (COMPANY NAME) Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the (COMPANY NAME) system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.
The UNEP/Finance Initiative (UNEP/FI) (wxx.xxxxxx.xxg) is a global partnership between UNEP and the private financial services sector. UNEP/FI works closely with over 200 financial institutions that are signatories to the UNEP/FI Statements of Environmental Commitment, as well as a range of partner organizations, to develop and promote the linkages between the environment & social sustainability and financial performance. Through its industry commissions, thematic advisory groups and regional activities, UNEP/FI carries out its mission to identify, promote, and realize the adoption of sustainability practices at all levels of financial institution operations.
UNEP/FI's Climate Change programme develops, implements and coordinates work across the banking, investment and insurance industries related to climate change. The broad aim of our work is to equip financial institutions as well as other stakeholders with the necessary knowledge and skills to address climate change risks and capitalize on its opportunities.
The TCFD Banking Pilot program builds on work done by UNEP/FI and partners in 2xxx-xxx8 that developed physical and transition risk methodologies for bank portfolios and extended in 2xxx-xxx0 through Phase II of the Banking Pilot. Phase III of the Banking Pilot aims to continue to build the knowledge and capabilities of participants through the exploration of new climate scenarios, additional data sources, and enhanced methodologies for risk assessment. Phase II involved nearly forty global banks across six continents working to implement the recommendations of the Task-Force for Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD). Phase III is likely to have a similarly diverse set of participants.
The Economy Division / UNEP FI internship is for six months.
The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Tasks: The intern will assist the Climate Change team with implementing work related to UNEP FI's TCFD Banking Pilot.
Daily responsibilities may vary depending on the individual's background as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
-Researching the latest developments regarding climate scenarios, climate impacts, and climate-related developments within the financial sector
-Evaluating bank and regulatory practices related to climate risk, both physical and transition risks
-Helping with the drafting and editing of publications (reports, studies, etc.)
-Supporting the day-to-day coordination of communications (organizing meetings, note-taking, etc.)
-Ensuring participants remain engaged by serving as liaison to different working groups within the program
-Assisting with the preparations for events (logistical planning, agenda setting, etc.)
-Working on other relevant tasks to support program success

Demonstrates openness in sharing information and keeping people informed.

Monitors ongoing developments inside and outside the clients' environment to keep informed and anticipate problems. Keeps clients informed of progress or setbacks in projects. Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.
Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
c. Have graduated with a university degree
Be computer literate in standard software applications.
Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the (COMPANY NAME) and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Academic background in economics, social sciences, natural sciences, environmental science, public policy, sustainable development, business administration, finance, or another related field is preferred.

English and French are the working languages of the (COMPANY NAME) Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN Language is desirable.
