The UN Environment Programme is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the (COMPANY NAME) system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP's Ecosystems Division works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and capacity development for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition.
The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) initiative was launched in order to respond to this mandate and resulted in the production of the following series of reports focused on improving understanding of the economic costs of biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation and to communicate this understanding to key stakeholders. Since the launch of these reports in 2010, the TEEB initiative has entered a new phase of work focusing on the implementation of report findings in decision-making at all levels. The TEEB - Ecosystem Services Economics Unit (TEEB-ESE) has been established with offices in Geneva and Nairobi to facilitate and support several processes at the country level as well as the sector/biome level.
This internship position is located in the UNEP/ TEEB-ESE Unit in Geneva, with the purpose of assisting the TEEB team in carrying out the growing portfolio of work for a minimum of three months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of six months, depending on the needs of the TEEB - Ecosystem Services Economics Unit.
Interns work five days per week (35-40 hours), under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's academic background, skill-set, the Intern's assigned office and duration of internship. Under the supervision of the TEEB-ESE Unit Coordinator, duties may include, but are not limited to:
*Research, analyse and present information gathered from diverse sources to support the implementation of TEEB project activities;
*Support the review of project deliverables;
*Assist with the organization of meetings and outreach events, developing necessary background materials, sourcing appropriate speakers, and report writing;
*Support communication activities (e.g. draft stories for social media, TEEB newsletter, etc.);
*Depending on the incumbent's skills and background (e.g. specific language skills), country or region-specific research, review tasks may be assigned;
*Support other activities as requested.

Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.
Applicants must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements:
*Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent). Enrollment in a graduation programme focused on environmental economics, environmental sciences, international studies or related field OR
*Have graduated with a university degree and if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation;
*Be computer literate in standard software applications;
*Have good analytical skills;
*Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the (COMPANY NAME) and has a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
Preferred area of study: Academic background in economics, environmental economics, environmental science, international studies, or a related field.
Learning elements and expectations:
Upon completion of the assignment, it is anticipated that the Intern will:
*Have gained a better understanding of the UNEP HQ operations, and the overall (COMPANY NAME) system;
*Have improved communication skills through interaction with UN Environment staff, Executive and Senior Management, governments and partner organizations.

English and French are the working languages of the (COMPANY NAME) Secretariat. For the Internship advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.
