Type of housing: With a family
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? Living with a family feels imposing to both parties involved. I felt that you could do as you pleased in case it caused offence and part of studying abroad is to learning to be self-sufficient as well as meeting like minded people.
Personal comments:
There was no provision for on campus accomodation for international students at DTU which is very unfair considering all exchange students arriving in the UK are allocated these sometimes before they are offered to UK Students. My accomodation was superb but many students were not as lucky as i was and i feel that if more of us had been living on campus then i would have gotten to know more people. There was however opposion from danish students to allow us to stay in their halls and i would suggest a purpose built accomodation block for international students. If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? Because I spent a lot of time in the different bus and trains everyday. If you live on campus you have more time to everything.
Personal comments:
I think that they have a big problem with the accommodation. Some people live very far from the university and I have never seen exchange students living in host families. All the residences are occupied by danish people and there are big problems to find an accommodation close to the university. I think they have to improve this aspect as soon as possible This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? I love space and a room in a private house offers independance and more freedom than elsewhere
Personal comments:
I think that the standards of living are in general high regarding all types of housing at DTU. Perhaps some of the places are located too far from the university and this should taken more carefully into consideration when rent is to be paid. In such cases one should pay significantly less than someone located near the university in a place of a comparable standard. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Why? For the student live. I missed a lot of great events, because I was pretty far from DTU
Personal comments:
Accomodation is a big isssue there, people at the university try to do their best to find an accomodation for every exchange/foreign sutdent. But sometime they could not satisfy everyone, but don't worry, you will not sleep in the street. Tips: If you really want want to see the Danish student live, try to contact and get a room at student campus called "collegium" This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? Because it's the easiest way in order not to loose any time and meet people
Personal comments:
Th facilities were not really good, one shower and one bathroom for 10 people and the common kitchen was so small, it was really annoying and a little bit noisy. But there was also a lot of other faoreign students so that I was happy to meet them and share some great timewith them in this place This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Why? Because it is where you can breathe the authentic Erasmus atmosphere, the most of the friends you meet live there and besides you live near university.
Personal comments:
Although I would have preferred to live on campus, my house and its location (between university and Copenhagen city centre) were pretty good. The only negative thing was my host was not very friendly with me. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Why? The dormatories at DtU are very well equipt. They have Cinemarooms, kanuos, and other stuff they are not so expensive and there are a lot of other students. It si also good to get in contact with danish people
Personal comments:
It is not easy to get a room at a dormatory, because appartments in DAnmark are expensive, but ones you have one it is usually really good. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Why? My current accomodation contract with DTU will finish by July 2006. They can not provide housing for more than 1 year for international students. So far I have registered with the waiting list of some other dormitories/student hostels. But the waiting time is 9 moths-1 year. Thus, I assume that I have to experience a temporal time renting/share an apartment after June 2006.
Personal comments:
I have no complaints about the provided facilities. There is only one thing that sometimes annoys me. We share the kitchen and take care of cleaning the disks ourselve. Sometimes people get lazy and forget to do that after parties. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Why? Living in a house is just great but living in a campus makes you more in contact with what is happening and helps a lot in getting information about your studies and making more friends
Personal comments:
It's very hard in Copenhagen to find free places with good prices. Some people are more lucky and some are less.As for the accomodation office, I think that they are doing a lot but still not everything however I don't expect them to do everything. It's true that magazines and advertisements are in Danish but it is no problem asking somebody to translate a small add about appartement rentals. Some people just don't get it that somethings they have to do by their own.The place we got from the acc. office was pretty dirty at the beginning and there were problems with the heating. We fixed a lot of things in the house ,after all we are newcomer engineers and we cleaned the shit that was there. No we are one of the few people to have a supercheap house with a perfect location and a backyard for summer grills, no family but still nothing fancy. Why? Because public transport in Denmark is quite expensive, and if you live on campus, then it is easier to know new people.
Personal comments:
In my opinion, they have a big problem with the accommodation of the exchange students. There are a lot of them (more than 500), but only one or two persons working on this aim. Moreover, there are only few posibilities to live in a residence, which is better and cheaper, and I think that it could be nice if they build two or three more (living in a family, which is so common, has not been a good experience for most of the exchange students. Why? I like to be living near to where I have to study and attend to classes.
Personal comments:
Housing depends very much on the luck you have but it is very difficult to have something good and is always expensive. I was not very lucky first and then I found some other accomodation independently. I have always lived in the Campus but first I was in a place everybody calls "containers" so you can imaging how was that... Then I moved to a typical residence for danish students using the subletting procedure. I was more comfortable there and I payed less as well. Personal comments:
As long as you ask for an accomadation early enough, you will be provided with a nice place to live in. Whereas if you wait until the last minute, you risk to live in the beautiful container-house on the campus! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Why? More social exchange! In private houses you are often with "old" people living alone and not wishing to be disturbed. I couldn't have guests in my accomodation.

If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? On campus housing was perfect for me initially because it allowed me to meet more international students. However, if I was there for more than 1 semester, I would have moved to an apartment because the facilities were very poor on campus.
Personal comments:
Also, for the cost of the housing, we were not getting what was adequate. For many days, the internet would not work properly or the heating was gone so we had to go to other buildings to take showers! The only benefits of living on campus were that it allowed us to meet more people and that it was close to our classes. Many international students are placed in "Campus Village", which are these hopelessly constructed boxes on campus for us to live. The Danish kollegiums were much nicer, but only 10 or so international students obtained housing there. Many other students had to find their own housing and received little or no help from DTU.
