Type of housing: student dormitory
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? Though living in a student dorm is cheaper, the size of the room is too small. Also, sharing one kitchen with eleven other people is sometimes uncomfortable.
Next time, i want to live in a space where it is easy to keep my private life and where i can manage my own stuffs.
Personal comments:
Munich university offers many different types of housings to students. In my case, as an exchange student i was to be offered a student dormitory and personally, i'm satisfied with the housing offered my munich university. The location is near to the city center that it was convenient to go to university or to the city center. From the central station it was only 4 stops. Furthermore, the surrounding area was clean, peaceful and safe. I am not sure about the other dorms offered by munich university, but many students seemed to be satisfied with the whole housing system of university. Why? Studenthouses are lively and rather international while a room far off any Studentwohnheim (as I was) deters you from partying all the time and having long evening chats anytime you feel like.
Personal comments:
There're at least 4 large Studenthouses (Studentwohnheim) but also a few others in the Munich area: Studentenstadt: the largest and oldest in Munich. A huge complex where you feel rather anonymous and caught in the rat race. Olympiazentrum: a bit like the previous one but with the nice and lively Olympiapark in the proximity. Kieferngarten: the cosiest and on a human scale but might feel bored there! Klinikum-großhadern: The most recent and liveliest one in munich. I recommend it. Why? I would choose to live in a different hall of residence (probably Klinikum Großhadern in south Munich) because it was hard to get in contact with other students where I lived (they were all a lot older and even some families were living in my hall).
Personal comments:
The hall was called Studentenstadt and it was pretty easy to get about as there was a U-Bahn station there. The halls look quite run down but the rooms themselves are ok if a little small. I've been back since (i.e. in the Summer semester) and the atmosphere is much better there with more things going on. I didn't have a bad time there though, it was just a bit hard to get to know other German students. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Type of housing: "Wohnheim"
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? On campus - there is no real campus.
With family - no way. I want my own place.
Room Exchange - dont really know what this means...
Personal comments:
Rooms organized by the "Studentenwerk" are very cheap. Normal apartments cost at least the double - however, there are not enough student rooms/apartments. Not even enough for the exchange students. What I found bad was that most student rooms do not have internet connections. Now they are installing LAN's in some Wohnheims, but not in all of them. Where I come from we've had a 10Mbit connections to the university for something like 5 years... This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Type of housing: With a family
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: With a family
Why? It's nicer, you don't feel so alone, so out of place. You learn much more and not just the language but the habits and cultural differences.
Personal comments:
It's really dificult to find rooms in Munich. I was lucky enough to find a room in Panserwiese but i didnt liked very much. It's far from the centre and people are a too distant from one another - not like in the movies! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Type of housing: halls of residence
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? I would prefer to have better equipped kitchen.
Personal comments:
I think that the accomodation provided is of a good standard, however there are discrepancies in prices between different halls of residence that do not corespond to the prices. Some halls of residence are of better or equal quality and are much cheaper than the others. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Why? I had an apartment in a big student dormitary in Munich. It was easy to meet other young people there, but since I had my own room, it was also easy to find peace and quite when ever I felt like that.

OK. I have nothing to complain about. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

I've been lucky. My appartment was not old and I had a single room. In Olympiacentrum there are bungalows where you have to live with an other Erasmusstudent in one room. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
