LURC people, wich takes care of you when you arrive, organise lots of trips (Storforsen, Santa Claus' Village on Finland, etc.). But take a look at the STIL (sport association) because they also offer some (Orca Safari's Trip in Norway, Skiing trips, etc.) Read Review

HOUSING
Personal assessment
Cost
KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.
Facilities
Location
Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? It is really close to the University (5/10 minutes) and I really enjoyed sharing a flat with 3 other people of different nationalities.
Personal comments:
If you are to study for one or two semesters in Lulea, ask to be in Vänortsvägen, it is the closest and far best housing near the University.

STUDENT LIFE
Personal social experience
Activities
KEY:
Amazing! Hardly had time to study.
Plenty to do when I had the time.
So-so.
Did not get involved.
Nightlife
Travel
Overall
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment
Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment
Personal comments:
If you are here only for one semester, try to choose the first one because the first two weeks (start mid-august) are integration weeks (Nolleperioden) and they are the best way to have fun and to meet other people! For the nightlife, Kåren (the university's nightclub) is not bad but you better take a cab to go downtown at Cleo (open all the year) or Grace (open only during summer).

ACADEMIC       3.5 / 5

Quality of courses
KEY:
Fantastic.
Pretty good.
Could've been a bit better.
Disappointing.
Variety of courses
Availability/access to resources
Interaction with teachers
Interaction with other international students
Interaction with local students
Course recommendations:
Lots of courses are in english, and if the course you want to take is not, just try to ask the teacher about doing it in english. They are really helpful!

My opinion of the university assessment
Exams at end of course
KEY:
Liked it.
It was alright.
A bit annoying.
Didn't like it.
Exams throughout the course
Essays and/or projects at the end of course.

No, it wasn't.
Was learning Swedish a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my Swedish
How much did you improve your Swedish?
My level before: Did not speak it
My level after: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
Personal comments:
Sweden is a great country for english-speakers beacause almost every single habitant here speaks english. And the swedish language is not that difficult to learn.

Meet is more expensive than in France. You don't need to call anybody, we all live next to eachothers. You don't have any help to pay your rent. You have so much to see, you have to travel!!!
Food, Travel, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Nightlife: was the same price as at home.
Telephone: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Sweden has its own currency, when the exchange rate is low, try to convert a lot of money in crowns!

I wish I had known...
If you live in Vänortsvägen, you will share a flat, it is not a problem but I wish I had knew before going there.
In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!

During my experience abroad, I ...
Became familiar with another culture
KEY:
Happened all the time.
Happened quite a lot.
Happened a bit.
Didn't happen.
Traveled
Improved language skills
Met people from other countries
Became more independent
Partied a lot
Experienced a change in life

Personal recommendation:
If you have the possibility to come one year but you are afraid to do so, come anyway one semester and after 2 months, you will do whatever it takes to stay the next semester! ;o)
