HOUSING
by Judit, Universität Wien, Vienna, Austria
Financial Management, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Type of housing: private student hall
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? Because you get more in touch with British people when you live in a shared house and you have a better control over your extra costs (i.e. electricity).
Personal comments:
The location and the rooms are great and I am also very lucky with my flatmates. Apart from the fact that we receive a terrible electricity bill every month, the service is quite good and the staff is really friendly. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Personal assessment
Type of housing: Private hall
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: With a family
Why? The reason is clear: You get more in touch with native english speakers. In private hall there are only few native speakers.
Personal comments:
I heard from other international students and it is also my experience: In Manchester it is not difficult to get a place to stay. But the prices are very expensive compared with Austria - but cheap compared with London. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

HOUSING
by Claudia, Karl Franzens Universität Graz, Graz, Austria
Literature, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? I like being with other people, but I do not like being with lots of people (like in a hall of residence) all the time. In a shared house, you have a couple of people you are living with and you can get to know them well. When you want your peace and quiet, you go to your room. In a hall of residence chances are that it'll be loud and noisy all the time.
Personal comments:
As an Erasmus student, I was sent material about my possibilites beforehand. The Manchester Metropolitan University, the MET, organises this pretty well, and if it's your first long-term stay abroad, you may be grateful for this help. You can also just go to Manchester, see the notices around & find a house on your own. Check out whether you've got to make a contract for at least 10 months!! Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? It would be nice to chose the people you want to share a flat with. Student hall doesn't give one a home-feeling.
Personal comments:
student halls are noisy and can be dirty, because nobody there is no cleaning schedule at all. Have seen alot of garbage in the hallway. Shared with three really nice brits, but they keep waking me up with their partying all the time, so I had to move. Postgraduates are more cleaner and quiet, but not as social as undergraduates. The building I'm at, you just get a good sleep twice a week. The staff here (besides the cleaning staff) doesn't smiles at all and are dreadful to talk with. Type of housing: Student Village, private hall, 4 bedrooms flat
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? First of all it is much cheaper than living in a hall. Secondly, if you found the right people to live with it is a lot of fun. Thirdly, more space, less problems with too noisy people and usually not as much first year's than in here.
Personal comments:
I can not really tell much about accomodation provided by this university, because I live in a private hall, but I have seen some of the university's halls and they are very nice in general. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? It allows a more free structure and can be cheaper. It would also be closer to the town centre which this accomodation was not.
Personal comments:
The accomodation at this university was really quite ordinary. Very old. Very cold. Far from the town centre and university. The food would have been some of the worst I have sampled. Pre-cooked and reheated. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
