HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? cause our residence is too small-only 36 people and it costs too much. It was too far from the facutly
Personal comments:
There were only 36 single rooms at the residence and 1 double. The cleaning ladies did all for us-washed the dishes, washed our clothes, cleaned the rooms, the kitchen, and everything else. There were all the facilities at the kitchen. There was free internet and 2 tv rooms and a game room. The problem was that there was specific time defined to return to the residence, e.g. it was forbidden to come late in the night on weekdays. Also a bad thing was that we couldn't take our friends there. Friends could only be entertained in the downstairs tv room until 00.00. Another disadvantage was that the walls were oo thin and one could actually here EVERYTHING happening EVERYWHERE!!! But as we were a small company we got on well and knewe each other quickly This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Personal comments:
Porto is full of perfect places to spend time, to talk with friends, to dance, to get to know new people. We lived in Foz, it's a district near the ocean so I can start with this area. Near our residence there was a pub BONAPARTE. The staff who work there was really nice, aspecialy one waitress who is half portuguese half german. It's a kind of duplex. On the first floor there is a restaurant. You can buy a pinte fo 3 euros. The outlook of this place is also nice because walls are full of old glasses, dolls, posters, and many other things which u cannot find anywhere. It was our second home for a half a year. The second place in Foz was PRAIA DA LUZ. It is placed near the ocean. You can olso seat outside and watch the sunsets.Meia de leite is for 1,5 euros. Inside there is even a fireplace which works during winter. Sometimes there are reagge parties but by day it's mainly a restaurnat. The fird perfect place in Foz is PRAIA DOS INGLESES.It's also near the ocean and walls of this place are made from glass. And also ALFAMA.It's a brasilian clb-pub where on Fridays there is a live brasilian music. Caipirinia is for 5 euros and you can also buy strawberry caipirinia. It's perfect when you go there with your friends. In the centre there are a lot of clubs and pubs. TANDINIA-it's near the Plaza Liberdade; one beer is for 1 euro; you can listen to all kinds of music. but mostly it's an alternative music. There are a lot of young people. But be carefull with bags and don't leave them everywhere. Because someone stole my cell phone when I left it on the chair. MOU MOU- it's a typical place for erasmus students. It's quite big. You can dance because there is a lot of place. Transe, techno, electronic music, drum'n'bass etc You can spend there all night and forget about all world. BAZAAR-it's placed near the river and I really like it. It has about 3 or 4 floors. On the last one there is a tarase where u can seat and talk. There are a lot of rooms so u can get lost. Music is perfect, mostly they have live music (dj's). VIA RAPIDA-it's a big club and very crowded. Till 2 o'clock there is noone so it's useless to come before 2. You won't find any place to seat because noone is seating. At 4 o'clock there are so many people that you cannot make any move. VOUGE-it's placed near Via Rapida but I like it much more. The design of this place is better. It's bigger but also too crowded. There are places for VIPs where you can eat something for free and drink but it's difficult to get there. Dj's are perfect but there is no place to seat and talk. They have an air conditioning but it's common in almost every big club... My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
I studied advertising there and all my expectations were fill.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
No, I think not. I just recommend to the future erasmus students to stay more with the "local" students, it helps. To stay with the erasmus students it's good but to be integrated with all the portugueses students, it's better. I didn't do this. And I regret. Language difficulties

Yes, I wanted to improve my English Was learning the local language a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my knowledge How much did you improve your English?
My level before: No problems in any areas (including slang) My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) How much did you improve your local language?
My level before: Did not speak it My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
As i said before, there were some language problems in the beginning in the 1st month. after that-no problems. We didn't choose the course held in pt in the beginning because we didn't know pt. In fact, if u know italian, spanish, romanian its very easy to learn pt. After a month it was equal for us to study and communicate both in english and pt. There are few people in pt that speak eng, espacially older people and Brazilians, so we had to start talking pt from the very 1st day. Since i know Spanish, I can tell that pt is a kinda simplified Spanish This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
not really - I was already familiar with Portugal and its culture. In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
not a good choice for ones that want a superb academic experience, goos for those who cannot (like me) participate in Erasmus (has a 'visiting student' system) FINAL COMMENTS
Porto is a great city, with superb atmosphere, but don't expect 'typical' portuguese weather-it does rain here and in winter is cold and unpleasant. if you don't mind -great choice! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
