Description:
The Université catholique de Louvain was established on December 9, 1425, by a papal bull issued by Pope Martin V. The University split along language lines as a result of political turmoil in the late 1960's. A law recognizing separate Flemish-speaking and French-speaking universities was passed in 1970. The former remained in Louvain while the latter moved to a new location on the outskirts of Ottignies. This new campus became the town of Louvain-la-Neuve. Between 1972 and 1979, nine faculties (schools) gradually moved to Louvain-la-Neuve. The Faculty of Medicine chose to move to Brussels (Woluwe-Saint-Lambert), in an area now known as « Louvain-en-Woluwe ».

I spend more in food, telephone and accomodation because is cheaper in my country and I live with my parents over there. And is also more expensive for travelling because in Europe is easier to travel so I do it more than home. Food, Travel, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Nightlife: was the same price as at home.

At home I was living with my parents, so I didn't pay for housing issues. And finally, once in Belgium one of the great opportunities is discovering the surroundings so we tried to make the most of our stay. Travel, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Food, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone: was the same price as at home.

There was a positive surprise: concerts are a lot cheaper in Belgium than in Portugal. Enjoy those bands that you might never see again. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Belgacom, the local phone company, charges far too much to give you a number, and they charge again when you cancel the line at the end of your stay. Even if you don't phone a lot, you pay every month, and it's quite a lot. Try to live in a flat where they already have a phone ! Local supermarkets are expensive : they're well aware of the fact tat most students have no car, and therefore have no choice : they shop in Louvain. Find friends to go shopping in the surrounding malls. Telephone: was more expensive than at home. Food: was the same price as at home. Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
1/ The railway company allows young students to buy 10-journey travelcards called "Gopass", it's a cheap and handy way to discover Belgium. 2/ Food : See 3. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

At home I live with my parents who take care of housing and food. However, the prices for food are higher in Louvain than in my home country. In addition I traveled more than usually. Food, Travel, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Nightlife: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
Beginning: bedding, home appliances, phoning per contract Current: Food Tip: take the postal money dispenser (it´s the only one giving less than 50 euro bills); try to find sim-card that allows phoning cheaply all over the world; don´t buy too much food so that you don´t have to throw it away when it gets bad This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
