I wish I had known...
That I needed a visa!! No one told me I had to get a travel Visa, so I got my passport with a visa a week before I was supposed to leave. Talk about stressing me out. Also, if you want to do a lot of travelling, do not take a conventional suitcase!! I was stupid and ended up halling a huge suitcase all over the train stations and ferry boats and subways. There are way to many stairs to be doing that. I definitely recommend a backpack!!! All my friends with backpacks had to watch me in pity as I struggled to make it up all those stairs. In my opinion:

The University is beautiful--palm trees, flowers, fountains. You'll meet a lot of people from different countries. Alicante is considered a small town--a few hundred thousand people. It is so much fun during the warmer months because you can enjoy the beach. Night life is a lot of fun too--lots of bars and discotecas if you like to dance. I loved it. FINAL COMMENTS
I had an awesome experience. I went totally on my own, without knowing anyone. I made friends with one guy in my class and then made friends with all the people he had come with in his program. The University of Alicante is an amazing school that can open many doors for students. There is strong international community and great programs for students to take advantage of. FINAL COMMENTS
Studying abroad has been the best experience of my life and I would recommend this program to anybody that would like to improve their Spanish and be fully immersed in Spanish culture. However, it is not all fun and games and students need to expect to work hard. The harder you work to meet new people and experience the culture the more rewarding your experience will be. Therefore, the best advice I can give is to be enthusiastic to try new things and take risks. You have to adjust to living in a new country, because the country is not going to adjust to you. It is worth going on trips organized by the university. The university campus is a bit outside Alicante where you can also find accomodation but it is worth living in the city centre(there is a beach, great nightlife and lots of people). It is the third biggest ERASMUS city in Spain (according to my spanish friends) therefore there is an immense number of international students, for those wanting to really explore the spanish culture it is most likely you will explore more other cultures. In my opinion:

Study at the University of Alicante as it is one of the most modern, beautiful universities in Spain with lots of activities organised for its students and a fantastic variety of courses including sports. FINAL COMMENTS
Sign up for the Erasmus Spanish course for only 30EU take both courses with local students and international students. Take advantage of sports activities as I did by taking Judo, Water sports(surf,wind surf, rowing, kayaking etc), Beach Volleyball and lots of travelling. If you are looking for accomodation this is the best website to find flats in alicante by the beach or near the centre (I reccomend living near plaza de los luceros or plaza de toros) https://aplicacionesua.cpd.ua.es/anuncios/default.asp?idioma=es Finally enjoy the great weather(around 300 sunny days per year), beach and cultural interaction of such an amazing city. The university is wonderful, the campus is beautiful and the teachers are wonderful. The teachers take any extra time that you need to explain something that you don´t understand. FINAL COMMENTS
Travel tips: pack lightly, no more than two bags, be ready for a completely different schedule of meals and nightlife. Make sure you travel, take advantage of being in a new place. Bring a journal and record your thoughts and experiences. You think you might remember it all, but you don´t and it is so fun to read that journal and travel back to those times. This has been the best experience in my life. Beware of becoming addicted to studying abroad because I didn´t want to come home to the US. Not that I have anything to compare it to, but this program was great. The director (Armando) is very accomodating, and sensitive to individual needs. FINAL COMMENTS
I knew before leaving that I had enough friends from the States in the States. I made the extra effort to make Spanish friends on my own, rather than just hanging out with all the other American students. For me, this is what really made my experience unique. I made some of the closest friends I have ever had. We still keep in touch and visit eachother often. Just make sure you know what you want to get out of the program before going in to it. Try to ask for information about courses and practices! In Italy practices do not have the same importance they have in other countries. In fact, in Spain they are an essential part of the note. If you do not attend the practices, you cannot do the exam. FINAL COMMENTS
I think an experience abroad is amazing. It is a possibility to grow up, to learn other points of view, to meet new people. To the students that are going to leave I would recommend to collect informations before leaving in order to not be in a maze once the arrive in the host country. This is a huge University where you can study many different types of subjects. Sometimes though, it is hard to know where to go for getting help with courses and registrations. But generally, I am satisfied. FINAL COMMENTS
This was a great chance for me to first of all improve my spanish. It is important to make friends also among the spanish people and not only with the other exchangestudents. University of Alicante is a great University. It's clean and modern with a lot of facilities on campus. Try to interact with Spanish students as much as possible and find out what is going on in town. FINAL COMMENTS
