Dublin City University (DCU)
DCU, 9 Dublin, Ireland
Description:
The University is located on a fifty acre campus in the northern suburbs of Dublin. Most of the University's programmes are provided in new, purpose-built buildings designed specifically for their needs, while the University's engineering programmes are currently housed largely in the older buildings on campus, some of which date back to the establishment of the Albert Agricultural College in the last century. The latter have been extensively refurbished and modernised. The campus with its adjoining parks constitutes a pleasant and productive environment for study and research.

Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? Independence, near the campus and pretty new. its a residence called Shanowen Hall, just like on campus residence but better in terms of independence and facilities.
Personal comments:
The University could have helped more in housing services. The situation has changed this year, as there are two new residences near the university campus that are prety good. Last year there were not such student residences, and housing was based in looking for houses near the University. The houses in dublin are quite old and many facilities. The University residence is only able to accomodate 30% of the students, so the new residences have been very handy, also to lower prices, as housing prices in Dublin are quite high. If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? in that way you can share a house/flat with locals and improve your language and get to know the culture and the irish.
Personal comments:
well, once i moved into the house to share with 7 girls it was nice as there was always something going on. but on the other hand it was quite dirty and i had to share to room as well. DCU als offered on campus room, but as the campus is really far from city center this is not so interresting. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? Because it is better to be independant and living with native people is the best way to learn a language.
Personal comments:
Housing in the university is quite good, clean, well organised, but the problem is that after midnight only people that live on the campus can enter the accomodations. that is not an advantage for student social life. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? Because the appartments were students residence off campus, and comparing with other people's experience this, I think, was the best.
Personal comments:
For the first years of being a student, students residence are good but I think next year I will get my own appartment to be more independant. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Personal comments:
Residence on campus is great, but it´s quite expensive (around 500 euros per month). They also have some strange rules I couldnt bear. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Why? FOR THE TIME, MONEY AND EFFORT WASTED IN REACHING THE UNIVERSITY. FACILITIES PROVIDED BY THE UNIVERSITY FOR ON CAMPUS STUDENTS ARE ALSO SOMETHING I WOULD HAVE LIKED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF.
Personal comments:
PERSONALLY SPEAKING, ON CAMPUS ACCOMODATION WAS INSUFFICIENT, BUT REGARDING THAT A NEW BLOCK OF ROOMS WAS UNDER CONSTRUCTION, IT SEEMS REASONLBLE THAT FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS THERE HAS BEEN AN INSUFICIENT CAPACITY TO SATISFY THE STUDENT DEMAND FOR ROOMS. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Why? It´s where the craic is. Your are lving among other students, it is easier to socialize and get to know other people. Plus the flats are brilliant, not to ention the gym...a must for all of you going to DCU
Personal comments:
Just the fact that you have to sign in your guests and pay 5 euro per night per person, other than that...No objection This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
