HOUSING
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? To get the opportunity to meet new people apart from those un my university. But I would not choose the same place.
Personal comments:
Th euniversity does not provide its own accommodation. It does however have a notice board for international students looking for somewhere to live, which proved to be very useful later on in my stay. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Nightlife: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Cafe Royal near to Plaza Real:Cool music and a nice atmosphere. Danzatoria Bar in Tibidabo: Visually ive never seen anything like it. A bit out of the way but definitly worth the visit. Jamboree (Mondays): Jam sessions with a cool atmosphere. Saturdays: For those that like RnB its definitly the place to be. Be warned, it does get very crowded. ACADEMIC
My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
The teaching methods and work requirements are very different to england. You dont have text books and there isnt as much research to do. The level of work is not as high or demanding. Its not that the quality of teaching was bad, just different. Exams are VERY relaxed in comparison to england. Students sit next to each other ans some even talk!!
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
Try to visit places where there are more erasmus students or live with people from different universities. As the university is very small, it reduces the number of people you can get to know. The good thing is that they do organise parties for the whole university. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: Spanish
Was learning Spanish a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my Spanish How much did you improve your Spanish?
My level before: At ease in most situations My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
Didnt really speak much at the beginning but my listening vastly improved from watching tv and listening in lessons. Gradually my spoken language improved from talking to students and simple things like food shopping!! I would suggest to most people that they should join a club or society which are at the main politecnic which is quite far away but a great way to make friend and practise spainsh! EXPENSES
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Government assistance Other sources of funding:
Personal savings An ERASMUS grant Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
My accommodation was extremly expensive so thats what increased my overall spending. Apart from that , general living was quite cheap but going out at night can be quite expensive. As there isnt a student union as such there isnt anywhere thats really cheap to go for a drink. Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Telephone: was the same price as at home. Food, Travel: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
There are only two computer rooms in the university itself but there are plenty of internet cafes around the city. Its quite easy to open a bank account and buy a mobile phone but things like registering with a doctor can be quite difficult. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

OVERALL
Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
How small the university is!! We were told it was smaller than nottingham trent but not how much smaller. Coming from such a large institution it did take quite a bit of getting used to. It would have also been nice to know more about which areas are safer to live in, cheaper to live in or have a larger student population. But you do get to find out after a while. In my opinion:
I loved it but I'm not sure everybody would.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
I enjoyed it but it was quite different to university in England. The teachers are all very helpful if you do have any difficulties. Some speak english too. The only thing that really dissappointed me was the size, but overall I enjoyed it. I would recommend doing more than one semester (6 months) as it does take a while before you really start mixing with the spanish students and the time does go really quickly. FINAL COMMENTS
Try not to go to agencies for accommodation (or just find somewhere for the first month) as they do charge commision etc. It also means that you are tied to a contract. If you do, id suggest rentabedroom.com or habitatgejove. Also you need to register with them early to get prioerity for viewing and accepting places. Travel is cheap and you can buy a metro ticket that lasts 3 months which is even cheaper. If you arrive in the summer, try and visit some other areas in cataluña:Sitges, Tarragona etc. Try and get to know as many people as possible. A bar called Cam Pumki have an erasmus night every thursday. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
